I took my dog in a few months ago for a broken nail. Dr. John said he would get the nail trimmed back and that I should wait out front. I heard a huge yelp and in a few minutes was let back to the room, to find them cleaning up blood from everywhere and my dog looking terrified with a huge bandage on his foot. They said they had needed to use a turniquet and that the bandage would need to stay on for the week. I also noticed that hair from his tail was caught in one of the leash cleats. My usually calm therapy dog was an emotional mess and in a lot of pain. While they were finishing up, I asked the vet about my dog's 1 lb weight gain (first change in 4 years), and said that I hadn't changed his feeding, to which Dr. John chewed me out about how "sick and tired" he was of owners saying their dogs "didn't eat that much" - this while my dog and I were already stressed out! (turned out it was a weighing mistake and he hadn't gained an ounce, btw). I switched to Cabrillo and found out that the vet there would NEVER bandage a nail wound because it does cause healing problems. I'm never going back!

This hospital is simply the best ever. Dr. John is everything I want in my vet. He cares, takes his time with our dogs and they love him to death. I am constantly amazed at his knowledge and skill levels. He has saved one of our dogs, and the other (a Lab) he restored to full activity after surgery for a torn knee ligament. The staff is caring, and our dogs pull us to get IN to the hospital, which is a first for us. Then they run and get on the scale to get weighed, knowing that their godd buddy Dr. John will be lavishing them with attention shortly. They are not an inexpensive hospital, but I feel like we do get excellent value there and our beloved pooches will never go anywhere else.

Animal Hospital of La Jolla has been our vet for nearly 20 years now. John provides a more clinical perspective, whereas Sue provides a more compassionate care. They are a great yin yang duo. Both have always had all of our pets in their hearts and have always wanted to provide the VERY BEST CARE that they can. In over the 20 years, both have assisted with the fragile steps to walk us through the sunset of our pets. Even after years passed, both still talk about fondly of our pets who have crossed the rainbow road. If you're on the fence about using this hospital for your pets, we urge you to ignore the two poor comments & embrace all of the positive comments. Sue, John and their very caring crew are worth their weight in gold.

I can't say enough good things about this place. I live in OB and make the drive because they are simply THE BEST. As a first-time client with an emergency they took care of us as if we were family (a POOR family), giving us all the care, attention, and options available. They did emergency surgery and the dog (a friend's I was watching who at a fish hook) recovered perfectly. I started taking my dog there who is a nervous wreck and they take really great care of her. My dog is there often and they always give great advice, take in to consideration my finances and my dog's well-being. I could write pages on how great everyone there is. Really. I love them!!

My 12 year dog recently had surgery with Dr. J Morizi: two teeth extractions and a neutering. When I picked him up afterwards he looked so happy and energized, as if he had just spent two hours at the playground. Dr. Morizi is obviously a very experienced and knowledgeable vet. The staff also is very friendly and professional...I always feel good going there. Prices are very reasonable.
