Do not go here. Please. DO NOT GO HERE. I should have read reviews before going, but in times of a pet emergency, the last thing you think to do is check a few reviews....Had to take our pet to VCA in the middle of the night due to an emergency on a weekend we felt that could not wait until the morning. When you arrive you fill out paperwork and wait for a vet to come see your pet. We waited in the waiting area for 30 minutes before anyone would take us back so our pet could get help. The whole time my pet was crying in agony. We told the vet what we know for our pet thus far, and we were mocked and told it was impossible that the pet would have this issue AGAIN. I insisted, this was the issue, we have been down this road before and they need to help as soon as possible. Before they would even provide my pet with any relief they rush in a document of items they wish to do and how much we would owe after those services. It felt like you are in an arcade and you must insert more quarters for them to continue with helping your pet. They were able to help my pet alleviate his immediate issue- and we walked out of there for just over $1000, my pet was not there any longer than 12 hours. Thats with money taken off because some services weren't needed in the end. There were a few employees who came to assist with my pets going home who were extremely caring and kind people who you can tell love animals.....But I did not get the same feeling from the vet. I understand nothing is free, and I doubt anyone expects that when they walk into any business-especially an emergency 24 hour business-that they won't have to pay. But these folks ONLY focus on making sure they can get paid, and then...once they solidify that, then they will fix your pet. I visited a different daytime vet locally for a followup and received the exact opposite care...This staff was friendly, caring, focused on getting the pet checked out and making sure not to be redundant in costly proceedures which were previously completed by VCA. And the vet was extremely compassionate with me and my pet. I felt if I went back to VCA they would do the whole kit and kaboodle all over again- blood work again, more xrays- cause why not? I am glad I visited a different vet locally. It restored my faith in humanity.

Caution!!! VCA came highly recommended to us and we have been using them for both vet serviced and boarding since we moved to the area more than two years age. Every past experience was fine until we boarded our dog for Christmas. There’s a different person running the boarding facility than we were familiar with and the place is a complete mess. Based on our experience there is no way we would ever go back to VCA in Castle Rock! When we called to check up on our pet we were told “no news is good news” and they were too busy to talk with us. We were running late so we called to see if someone would still be around after five. We got their voice mail and when they called back we were told if we couldn't be there by five we would have to wait until the next day. When we picked up our pet they hadn't given him a bath or done his nails like they were supposed to. He has lost a noticeable amount of weight and looks like he’s been neglected since we dropped him off. To top it all off they doubled their prices and didn't bother to tell us ahead of time. This is far and away the worst boarding experience we've ever had!

I'm not sure what happened with the others, but my experience today was great. We have a miniature pig which we suspected had mange and VCA Douglas County was recommended (besides CSU) to my wife, So, she made the appointment. When I looked up the address, I was concerned about going here, but we really had little choice since it's a pig. She was confirmed to have mange, but Dr. Eppard found it was a very rare type of mite. She knows the head of CSU's Vet Clinic and called the school (where our pig was spayed and vaccinated in early Aug) for assistance with the medication dosage. Even CSU didn't know, so they are going to research and let us know. In the meantime, we are giving her an alternate of antibiotics and a bath with Benzoyl Peroxide shampoo. It's obvious that Dr. Eppard is well connected with arguably the nation's best veterinary school. The place was VERY clean with no odors, the staff friendly and appointment (9AM) was on time. I was concerned when I was brought the bill and was pleasantly surprised when it was FAR less than expected. I would DEFINITELY recommend VCA Douglas County Hospital and will not hesitate to return for our pig's annual appointments.

My first red flag was right when I walked in the door. The extremely pungent smell of animal urine. You could SEE the dried up puddles all across the tile floor! There is NO WAY they mop every day. And, having a 4-month-old puppy with me, sniffing around and rubbing his nose in other dogs old pee, was a bad start to our visit. And then they were about 20 minutes late to the appt. And THEN I waited in the room with my dog for a another 20 minutes total, for the nurse, for the doctor, for the nurse, and finally for the BILL?? They told me his first visit was free! They ended up trying to charge me over $200! For a stool sample that hadn't taken place, some tummy medicine (even though the doc said his very mild tummy ache had passed, and if he had any more stomach issues to give him a small dose of Pepcid AC), and heartworm medication. Finding most of the charges unnecessary, I bought the heart worm prevention pills, and got the hell out of there. Horrible experience. To sum it up: Unclean, unprofessional, greedy, and you probably shouldn't have any other appointments planned, because you'll be there for a while, for what is supposed to be a simple checkup. An hour and a half???

I am not sure why there are so many bad reviews!? We boarded our 2 dogs there this weekend and they were wonderful! We got stuck in traffic on I70 and knew the boarding closed at 5 on Sundays, we were so stressed trying to hurry to get back in time, then a little after 4 they called us and said don’t worry about being late the emergency staff could help us. Knowing there was still someone there to allow us to pick up our dogs was great. Also, while we were there a man brought in his dog that was bleeding and they went right out to the car and helped him immediately. I could tell they cared about animals. The staff was wonderful! Emergency care is not cheap, and shouldn’t be, how would you like to work nights, or late hours? We should be thankful they are there for us when our animals need care!
