My dog broke off an incisor and needed a root canal to prevent infection in the future. The doctor was able to see me the morning after I called in, and then performed the procedure just an hour after our initial appointment. The entire staff was very helpful with all my questions, and my dog was treated great. The cost was reasonable and equaled the lower end of their estimate. The whole process was went as well as a dog owner could ask for. Heaven forbid we need to go through this again, but if we do, I'll drive the extended distance to go to this clinic again.
We have had three of our pets cared for by Animal Dental Care and each time the experience was great. This is one of the few veterinary dental practices in the state and the only place I would trust with my beloved pets. The staff is friendly and professional and the dentistry is state of the art.
We're sorry that jensmy had a less than stellar visit to our office, in response to the review given by jensmy, and in defense of our position in the matter as the staff of Animal Dental Care, several items in jensmy's post are inaccurate. The average dental cleaning in this socio-economic area is well above the reported amount in the previous post and our prices are also miss-quoted. The initial estimate given for care of this patient included full mouth x-rays as her dental condition was poor. We base all of the dental care fees which are above routine cleaning on time instead of on procedure. Therefore, the more dental disease there is, there will be more work to perform. This owner was given a full estimate before leaving her pet in our care, and was called to modify the estimate after diagnostic dental x-rays were taken under anesthesia. At that time, as with all of our clients, she was given the option of coming in the look at all of the X-rays and pictures before the doctor continued with any additional dental work. This particular owner opted to allow the doctor to continue and was given a complete finalized estimate. The final invoice was within this owner approved estimate range. She was consistently given the option of returning at another date to complete her pets dental care, however, it was her decision to allow the doctor to complete the recommended dental care at that time. We certainly care about all of our clients and their pets, and work hard to make every visit to our office helpful and healthy.
If you’re searching for the James Herriot experience Animal Dental Care of Colorado Springs (a.k.a. Tony M. Woodward DVM/a.k.a. Well Pets/a.k.a. Woodward Veterinary Services P. C.) is not for you. This practice is cash-driven. My husband and I expected a markup for specialty dental treatment and equipment, but not an invoice exceeding our monthly mortgage. An average dental cleaning for a dog weighing less than 20lbs at a veterinary practice will run a patient between $175 and $250. A similar cleaning at Animal Dental Care? $750. And that’s just for the cleaning. Expect any common, additional treatments to be double, quadruple . . . (the options are infinite) the standard price. Breaking-down the invoice: an extraction costs approximately $63.00, though there is no established fee (a $43.00 markup) a pre-surgical screen costs $101 and is NOT included in the $250 canine dental package fee (a $21.00 markup) an IV catheter, line and fluids cost an extra $127 (an $89.00 markup) an additional hour of anesthesia costs an extra $101.00 a surgery pack costs an extra $34 suture material costs an extra $35 a 5 minute meeting with the doctor costs an extra $70 radiographs cost an extra $134. . . the invoice goes on. For our 2.8lb dog, my husband and I received an invoice totaling $1400. Initially, we were quoted $750, but were called mid-afternoon (while our pet was on the table) to be informed our estimate could possibly double. Needless to say, being a military family on a tight budget, we were sticker-shocked. It took four credit cards to get our precious pet back into our arms. For a similar procedure at our veterinarian’s, our out-of-pocket would have totaled $400. Note: Do not be misled by the BBB sticker in the Animal Emergency Care Center window. The smaller practices linked to Animal Emergency (as with most small practices) are not included in this accreditation. A Disheartened Military Spouse
