As a volunteer here, I get to work behind the scenes and see things the general public don't get to see. I personally believe that the animals are the number one priority in the shelter. They are a no kill shelter and keep all animals on the floor until they get adopted, no matter how long it takes. They offer training classes to the shelter dogs to make them more adoptable and they make sure they have plenty of volunteers to take the dogs out multiple times a day. They keep kennels clean at all times and make sure the dogs are in good hands. The staff at the shelter know how to read dogs physical and emotional movements and are able to provide care for them based on that. Although some staff isn't as friendly as could be, they know what they are doing and they are good at what they do. I have adopted two of my three dogs from here and they are so good! I have never seen a shelter as good as the Longmont Humane Society.
I have been in Longmont Humane Society a few times and I've noticed they are very honest about their animals, good and bad. They are definitely looking for the right family for each animal. We have small children and they did, in fact, refuse to let us see a couple of dogs because they weren't compatible with our family. I think overall the experience went smoothly and I would recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a pet. Just come in before 4pm, so they're not so rushed.
Compassionate volunteers and staff are the backbone of this institution! So many people working so hard to give these pets a good life, it is amazing.
This humane society does such fantastic job! I Got the BEST dog in the world there, Beau Dog. I'd recommend that anyone considering a 4 legged family member stop by there. They are very professional and do a great job for the animals!
Very rude and unfriendly desk staff who have treated me poorly every time I go in for one reason or another. Poor medical assessments and communication on availability status (allowing cats in poor health to be adopted and placing cats with other cats without testing them for disease). They have continuously offered for me to meet pets to consider for adoption that are already being adopted. Have on multiple occasions failed to tell me animals were being held before allowing visits. Undertrained staff who effectively LOST me a dog I was going to adopt because after speaking with THREE staff members none of them told me you could place a hold on an unavailable dog (hence someone else adopted the dog I had been waiting for a whole week before I was able to place a hold on her).
