Recently I was seeking out a veterinarian who could assist me in moving my 5 cats to Hawaii. I had looked up and called numerous vets, Chippens was one of the vets I called early in the year explaining my dilemma. Many of the other veterinary hospitals sought to refer me to other places. The receptionist took down all of my information and within a couple days I spoke with the veterinarian Dr. Elliot. She started the process as soon as it was possible. The requirements for shipping pets are tedious, but she took in and cared for all 5 of my cats. Dr. Elliot went above and beyond expectation, handling most - if not all of the actual paperwork only leaving me to sign. As for expense, each and every time I was quoted a price, somehow it eventually ended up being a bit less. This allowed me to prepare for final expense, as preparing to import your pets is no little bill on your wallet. In the end it did not matter how much the final bill came just from Chippens Hill, I knew they had taken the best care for my pets and this is what matters the most!! I am going to miss this vet when I do eventually move to Hawaii, this place has made me feel extremely comfortable on a personal level. I know my furry kids were in good hands, their best interest looked after, and thoroughly examined. If I could ever highly recommend a veterinarian/ veterinary hospital this would most definitely be the place!! Thank you Dr. Elliot and Chippens Hill Vet associates for your caring, patience, and hospitality! My family and truly appreciate your dedication!! - The Richards Family, Jonathan and Ambyr-Lynne Richards

These people are not as horrible as some other vets. Dr. Elliot might even be pretty good.

After I moved to Bristol last year I took my Miniature German Pinscher to Chippens Hill simply because I found their name on the web. I was impressed by the time and careful attention the vet gave Zelda during her initial visit for a physical exam and for shots. But make no mistake: they are probably the most expensive practice in Bristol. That initial visit came to $276 which I suspected was very high. My suspicions were confirmed when I got to know other dog owners in the area who avoided Chippens for just that reason; for Zelda could have been seen at several other practices and received the same exam and shots for over a third less. Since then we did have a situation come up which really required an immediate visit. I am a full time student and at that particular time I couldn't absolutely guarantee that I could pay in full when I brought her in (I couldn't know how much the visit and treatment would come to, obviously): so they wouldn't see her even though she was an established patient. Luckily, I was able to prevent the situation from worsening for a week until I knew I could pay the bill - and I know other vets have the same policy - but still, it was frightening.

The best care for the one(s) you love. Dr Elliot in particular is amazingly insightful & skilled as well as kind, easily accessible, mindful and caring. I find the SLIGHTLY higher costs per visit, are less costly in the long run. They diagnosed my pet properly & swiftly on 2 different maladies, thus preventing revisits and trial and error guesswork. They know what they're doing. Other vets I've tried in this area were unacceptable, had poor service, not at all careful with their records and supplied misinformation. I'm ECSTATIC to have found such a good vet! On anther note to anyone whom complains about cost: YOU SHOULD HAVE INSURANCE FOR YOUR PET. My own insurance has reimbursed for more than I've paid into it. For $20 or so a month, you don't have to worry about ailments that arise and cause a bit of money. My plan pays 80% of each charge for ailments. I will never understand why so few persons get insurance for their pet. I LOVE CHIPPENS!

I recently moved to the area and had not yet found a vet for my Belgian Hare. Every rabbit enthusiast knows how hard it is to find an experienced rabbit specialist. When I had a 'rabbit emergency', I was able to get a same-morning appointment. Although I had to wait quite a while after arriving for the appointment, I was really pleased with how much time the vet spent with me, as well as working on related issues on my behalf. She spent a long time on the phone contacting pharmacies who could make a special medication, and was concerned (without my even mentioning it) about how much it would cost, how fast the pharmacy could prepare it, and with finding it at a location that was convenient for me. Ultimately she couldn't find a place that could make it right away; their office had some in stock but the expiration date was passed, so she inquired of the manufacturer to see how stringent the expiration date was. They said it should have very close to full potency still, so since it was expired she gave it to me no charge. She did a good job explaining possible causes for my rabbit's condition, narrowing it down to the most likely cause. She also explained why some expensive tests that may not be conclusive were probably not worth doing - in other words, I didn't feel like anything unnecessary or gratuitous was pushed on me. And she added a pain killer medication as well because "ear infections like that are very painful'. So she was focused on and concerned about bunny's comfort, and my cost and convenience. I can see why their appointments may run behind if the vet spends that much time on one animal.... and it's well worth it.
