Rip off! These folks are simply out for money. Beware! Make sure you ask them upfront what you're going to pay. Went in on an emergency with our dog (chronic knee issue). We knew what it was, and simply needed some anti-inflammatory meds. They racked up the bill saying they had to run blood work first, just to give him the meds he was already on in the past (and I showed them the history as I brought it with me). Then, they said he needed surgery to have the issue resolved. We already knew that. A few vets already told us surgery was needed to fix the issue the dog was born with. They asked us to go in for a "consultation" for surgery. I didn't know why we needed this but figured they wanted to pitch us on them doing the surgery. When we went to leave the consultation they slapped us with a bill for nearly $170!! What? I took hours off a work for them to tell me something I already knew and then they charge us for our time? And, they never told us upfront that there would be a charge. Such deception! They are super nice, but who wouldn't be when you're ripping people off! Oh, they want $5,000 for each knee!!!
When I relocated to CT, I was very concerned about finding a quality vet clinic… again. Knowing how crucial this is to my pet’s wellbeing, I was not looking forward to the process. I tried some but much to my dismay, left due to poor service and soaring prices. I needed to act quickly because my Cattledog was showing odd signs and the vets I tried were blowing it off because they couldn’t diagnose the problem. I knew something was wrong so I looked for a specialist and found Dr. Dianne Kittrell at VCA Animal Hospital in Norwalk, CT. I first met with her assistant, Laura Dotta, who was amazing from the get go. Not only did she attend to us in a manner I felt very taken care of, she has continued to do so over the years. She goes way above and beyond, faxing info to me, researching labs, teaching good injection sites… everything to ensure my pets get the best care. I just love her! Then I had the honor of meeting Dr. Kittrell, who in my opinion is the best vet I have ever worked with! She is an Internal Medicine Specialist and was able to diagnose my Cattledog in an instant. She had Acute Cushing’s disease. Dr. Kittrell order an ultrasound to get a baseline of the tumor and we’ve been doing one a year ever since to make sure the tumors stay small as well as the liver health remains constant. She is amazing! Even though she couldn’t be my “everyday” vet because she’s a specialist and doesn’t do annual visits/shots, she referred me to Dr. Ragan out of her sister site in VCA Darien who is equally talented. This year, when my dog’s blood work showed anomalies both he and Dr. Kittrell were in close contact watching it. After a few months and blood values rising, she had another look at my pet and diagnosed a serious tumor that needed removal from her parathyroid gland. I was floored because my pet had been through enough but Dr. Kittrell alleviated my worries and concerns and set up everything. The surgeon, Dr. Matthew Palmisano was outstanding, after care doctor, Dr. Lacassagne, who made sure she stayed stable and Stella, surgery liaison who made me laugh when I needed it. The teams, as a whole, made “people hospitals” look amateur! My pet recovered perfectly and the team got us ready for the next relocation to FL. I was sick to my stomach leaving this incredible clinic and Dr. Kittrell and verbalized my dismay to Dr. Kittrell about starting my search again! Both she and Laura offered to do it for me so I could pack and start my move free of worries. These ladies are a class act! There are few times in life you meet exceptional people you know you will remember for a lifetime. Dr. Kittrell and Laura Dotta will always be two of those people for me. I am so grateful for their compassion toward my pet and excellence in knowledge that I always felt and knew my Quigley was in the best hands ever. Thank you Dr. Kittrell, Laura and the entire VCA Norwalk staff for being remarkable! I stand in awe of you!
We took our dog to this emergency hospital , and I have never felt so pressured to purchase something in my entire life. Complete salesmen , my dog had a SIMPLE STOMACH BUG which required a bland diet and small amounts of water at a time , and these people tried selling us x rays, blood work and a $100 for a small shot to put water under our dogs skin to keep her hydrated for a total of $700 ( not including the $110 examination fee we already had to pay for ). We chose to take the shot for the time being and take her to our personal vet the next day. The diagnosis from out vet: small stomach bug, don't feed her for 8-12 hours , give her a bland diet after the 12 hours, and small amounts of water at a time. Cost from our vet: just $30 for the visit. If you like throwing around money and going to salesmen vets this place is perfect for you.
This place requires a large deposit or they will stop treating your pet. Then it seems like they do everything they can to run up the bill, and when it's time to pay you can't argue because they already have your money. I tried. My friend's dog was attacked by other dogs, and they took him to VCA. The dog had scratches, some deep cuts, and bruises. VCA did a good job stabilizing him, but then put him on Oxygen for no reason. It costs over $200 per day. The dog was there for 51 hours, but they billed for three full days of Oxygen. My friends English isn't good, so I went along to help when they picked up the dog. The assistant demeaned me and told me how deeply deeply I had offended her and her colleagues when I stated that charging for three full days of Oxygen for 51 hours wasn't fair. Everything on the bill seemed really inflated, some things seemed unnecessary. Just cleaning out the cuts alone cost over $500. The total bill was over $3,600 and no surgery was required. My own dog managed to get into a fight with a buck that wandered onto our yard. She got gored, but it only cost $296 at Oronoque Animal Hospital in Stratford and she's good as new (no surgery was needed). If you have plenty of extra money kicking around this place will really take care of your pet, but I would recommend going elsewhere. I would have given three stars, but the staff was really unnecessarily rude. Pets are their patients, but people are their clients (and the pets family) and should be treated with just as much respect as the animals.
I took my dogs to VCA vet Referal Hospital in Norwalk, CT after they had fight with some animal (we never saw the animal) in our backyard at night. But when I heard the hefty price tags for all the services that they wanted to treat my dogs for, I decided to take my dogs to their primary vet. I simply could not afford nearly $2000 for their services. I told the vet about my intentions, that I will take them to our vet, which I can financially afford and I asked for the bill for their services (looking at my dogs). They took really long time to release us and their stalling upset me. Finally I was able to pay the bill (about $270 for both dogs) about an hour and a half later, after I told them to send me the bill by mail, that I cannot wait any longer and after I took my dogs to a car. (We were at the vet altogether from before 8pm until after 10pm) They reported us to a municipal animal control - because we didn't have our dogs boosted against rabies at their facility. After conversation with our regular vet (which is in a different state) I learned that Norwalk vet misdiagnosed my dogs - in my opinion they simply wanted to give my dogs more unnecessary services and treatments to make as much money as they could. I didn't like the way they treated me as their client, besides overcharging us. I will never go there again. I will rather drive for several hours to the vet that takes care of our dogs.
