I went to All Cats because UF, my regular hospital was completely booked, and it was an emergency. My 15 year old cat turned out to have pancreatitis. I told them in advance that I was in a lot of debt and make close to minimum wage and they seemed very understanding on the phone, and when I first got there.. However, in addition to basic blood tests, they also syringed urine from my cat without asking me first and urged me to do cancer tests that were in the range of $400 and up. They offered to clip his nails for free and when I got the bill, I found out that they had charged me $15.00. They also tried to charge me $8.00 for one pill of an appetite stimulant that currently cost .57 cents online. I can understand 'brick and morter' mark-up fees but this was in the realm of the transcendental. I have had animals for many, many years and traditionally a good vet will lay out costs to you during the physical exam, giving you the option to yay or nay tests. A really good vet will tell you what's really necessary in terms of the cat's health vs. your budget. They will also tell you the order of escalation of tests, from "this has to be done immediately, to "this can wait." All Cats, albeit knowledgeable, took complete advantage of my panic about my cat and the only reason it cost me $325 (I calculate it should have cost me around $200 for an exam, basic blood panel and a pancreatitis test) instead of $500-$725 is because I had read some of the reviews here in advance and was able to put my foot down at the checkout counter. I don't usually write reviews but the reviews here were so helpful that I felt it incumbent to add my voice. I now take my cats to he Main Street branch of Newberry Animal Hospital and am very happy.
Simply put, Dr. Gordon saved my cat's life. My previous vet clinic is highly respected in Gainesville, but they are not cat specialists, and after months of testing and expensive prescriptions, they could not diagnose or cure a painful UTI. She was in so much chronic pain, I was ready to put her down. As a last resort, I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Gordon, and I am thrilled that I did. Within the first visit, she diagnosed the infection, got Sophie on the right meds, and also diagnosed a problem with painful constipation, and found chronic arthritis in Sophie's spine, which was also causing her pain. Their overall service is likewise good. I've never waited more than 3 minutes for Sophie to be taken to the examining room, they refill my 1800PetMeds prescriptions all the time, and her staff is compassionate and friendly. Most importantly, they truly are cat specialists. I highly recommend Dr. Gordon for your cat's health care. She is a good person and will provide quality care.
I'm not a fan of Doctor Gordon. I've been to her a few times and I didn't like how she talked down to me. Obviously I'm not a vet, but I've had cats for years and I DO know a bit about them. I love my cats, they're my babies, and I would do anything to take care of them. However, I do not have money to burn, and another huge issue I have is the excessive amounts of tests she runs. I've ended up paying an arm and a leg for simple issues. It's a shame that Doctor Molstad has left. I took my sphynx to her, because she has some of her own, and she was so much better. She soothed my worry for my baby, and took care of him with minimal charges even though my overactive imagination had lead me into a panic that would have been easy to take advantage of. Now that she is gone I will no longer be going to All Cats. I'll be taking my business to someone who can treat me with kindness when going through a hard time (a vet visit can be a scary thing when you don't know what's wrong with your kitty), and someone who understands that people can't afford unnecessary tests.
I tried All Cats for a year because it is relatively close to my home and I wanted to patronize a local business. My mistake. All Cats is expensive, does not have work-friendly hours, and always runs behind. Expect routine visits to take 90 to 120 min. They're also not conducive to the use of 1800Petmeds, and I'll echo another reviewer in that All Cats tries to bilk you with unnecessary tests and visits. I'll describe the last straw. In the first visit, All Cats recommended that we start our indoor-only cats on Heartgard. It seemed unnecessary, but we followed their recommendation out of precaution. All Cats tested the cats for heartworm and found them all negative. After pushing us to buy the Heartgard from them--at a sizeable markup, of course--they agreed to approve prescriptions through 1800Petmeds. Nine months later, I tried to refill the prescription and All Cats refused to approve it unless we took our cats back for exams every six months. It's a transparent attempt to earn more exam fees. I'd recommend taking your pets to the veterinary school.
I am happy with Patti Gordon, but the service here is horrible, to the point where I am pulling my cat out immediately. There are 2 doctors here, so if you happen to get the other one you may get completely contradicting information from Gordon. In order to speak with anyone, you have to go through like 3 people just for them to say they will call you back, and don't always do. Recently Gordon had me schedule a follow up appt for my cat's uti, which I was told would simply be a physical examination. When I showed up, the other doctor was there and had a technician tell me to come back in 2 weeks, and there would be ANOTHER urinalysis ($$). They are always trying to do more tests on your cat than needed, all of which are sent to a very expensive lab. They do care about the cats, but they are also trying to milk you for all your worth. The technicians sometimes have no idea what they are talking about, and that's the only person you get to talk to.
