I have taken my boxer to Banfield Pet Hospital in the Oakleaf Mall exclusively for the past 3 years after we adopted her. In that time, I have received an incorrect diagnosis and course of action for all of the issues she has encountered. The first incident occurred when she had a swollen muzzle in 2011. We took her in because we thought she was having an allergic reaction to something she got into outside. We were told that the cause was due to her under bite. Since when does an under bite cause an entire muzzle to swell? That made me feel as though it was a lazy exam. The 2nd time we brought her in was due to loss of hair along her sides in 2013. We received a diagnosis of ring worm and prescribed a fungal shampoo. However, after googling what the true cause could be we discovered that it was seasonal alopecia. Something that is common in boxers and something that cannot be cured with a fungal shampoo. The 3rd and final time was over the past 30 days. I took her in because she had bumps on her ears. The 1st visit, I was told it was probably ring worm. I advised that I didn't think that was correct, as I know ring worm is contagious and no one in my family had it. I also let the doctor know that the last time I came in with a skin problem they told me ring worm when it was actually seasonal alopecia. The bumps weren’t inflamed nor causing her discomfort. These bumps did not have the telltale sign of a ring – hence the name. But the doctor prescribed $356 worth of medication and procedures to help confirm ring worm diagnose that including a skin scrape. On the 2nd visit 2 weeks later, I advised that the bumps had not improved. I told her that the bumps looked more like warts than ring worm. However, the doctor disagreed with me and prescribed more of the same medication and recommended a biopsy on my next visit since she was due for a dental cleaning. This visit cost me another $83. My next visit was today which was 2 weeks after the last. The doctor (a different one) told me that they wanted to get some liquid from the bumps to test them to make sure they were not mast tumors AS A BIOPSY WOULD MAKE THEM WORSE!!!!! I expressed my frustration with this doctor and let him know that I feel like I have been milked for unnecessary expenses. I also let him know that I wish the prior doctor would have been more thorough in her review of my dog. The prior 2 visits did not do a complete exam. Especially, if I can do a simple google search on her condition and come to a better example of what's going on than what a licensed professional is able to diagnose. I have paid a lot of money for her visits and I feel as though I have been ripped off. I have given my dog unnecessary medicine for the past 30 days that has done NOTHING for her condition. I should not have to be a better doctor than the people I pay to be doctors. After going online today to look up ‘mast tumor’ I came across histiocytoma. After viewing pictures and reading the conditions online of this, this is more than likely what is going on with my dog. In addition, the recommended course of action was exactly what today’s doctor did. However, I have wasted 30 days in trying to get a resolution to this. Again, a simple google search more accurately provides pictures and descriptions of my pet’s issue. Although the last doctor seems as though he knows what he is talking about, I am angry and disappointed at the service I have received over the last 3 years. I feel as though the vets do not take the necessary time to properly diagnose animals and prescribe unnecessary medication. I should not be able to Google better and more accurate diagnosis than what I am being told from a Veterinarian.
