I took my dog in to my regular vet for a limp. They advised they couldn't determine what was wrong without doing an X-Ray. They advised he needed to be sedated and it would cost close to 300.00. I then called and got an appointment with Clay Humane! Took my dog in and the Doctor comes in and after just checking him over physically, he advised, he didn't need to do X-Rays that he could see his knee popping out of place, and said it was very common. He also noticed a spot on his paw he was chewing. He gave me medicine to take care of the paw and then provided me with surgery information. I was very impressed, they were very nice and caring! I will no longer take my dog anywhere else but Clay Humane! Thank you Guys!!
I can't begin to praise the Clay County Humane Society enough! I have had many visits with my animals for various reasons. All at reasonable cost and with great compassion. The most memorable to me are the 2 times I have had to help one of my beloved cats on their way to eternity. One was a crusty old tom cat who took guff from no man, dog, or cat EXCEPT me :-), the other a young, friendly male whose kidneys failed inexplicably. Both were given every opportunity for healing but in both instances when it became clear they would not survive, the utmost in caring and compassion was shown to me and my cats. They even have a small, private room with a couch that made the painful process a bit more comfortable for us both by being more like home. Both times the vets even shed tears with me. How could anyone expect more?
I have been using the Humane Society for all my pets for a few years. I called today because my beloved Westie was suddenly very ill, burning up, in pain and lethargic. They would NOT see us. And at the very LEAST they did not have a reccomendation! Who does that? What kind of "Humane" compasionate animal care center would turn away a EMERGENCY! Especially, one of their own, regulars!!!!!! I called a near by animal hospital, Creekside on HWY 220, and even though they were very busy, and we had never been there before...immediatley said yes, bring her right over!!! They were very friendly, professional and efficient. Gave her medicine to get her out of pain and scheduled follow up evaluations. This will be my new vet and the one I reccomend to all my friends and family.
warning to all pet owners do not go to clay county humane , i cannot believe how i was just treated. i have been going there for 3 years and my daughters puppy who just had surgery there this past tuesday for nueter and he got the chip has been fine except for today when all of a sudden he developed an abcess in the bottom right eyelid, he is an inside dog, i called this vet before thier closing t ime and could have had him there in 10 minutes. they would not see him and beyond that the girl was extremely rude talking over me and said they would fit him in on monday and that they were doing me a favor to do that because they are booked until the 9th. when i tried to explain that this was emergency and could they please do something for him she was disconcerned. she kept incessantly talking, i said i would not be back and i would inform everyone i know about this, she hung up on me. i guess caring about thier patients stops 30 minutes before they are suppose to close. i need a vet who cares about my animals, they are family to me. tryp is on his way to an emergency vet right now. i think everyone shouild know about this.
Well, I went to this clinic thinking that it was going to be different. From the begining I would get the feeling that they were after my money. They always seemed to find things "wrong" with my animals and have very expensive ways to treat them. Since I was desperate for a solution to my dog's severe allery problem, I took their advice and paid the $300 blood allergy testing. Results came back that my dog was allergic to dust mites and they suggested a life-long allergy shot made "just for him" what would cost an additional $125. I took my dog there again to get his tail amputated because he would get so excited to see people and wag his tail so fast that it would hit the wall and bleed. Vet said "If the tail was gone you wouldn't have the problem." They gave me a low cost as well as high cost for the surgery, medication, pre-surgical panel, etc. so I was aware of the possible charges and made me sign it. I took my dog in on surgery day and the surgery took place. I went to pick him up after surgery and was given his post-op instructions. The tech. gave me a print out of their medical advice as well as his medications. She did not tell me what the medications were for, but simply how to give them. The tech. told me my grand total and took my card. The she handed me my receipt and rushed me out the door since they were so busy. When I got home I read over my itemized statement and saw that the antibiotic that was given to us was $48!!! ALL ANTIBIOTICS ARE FREE AT YOUR LOCAL PUBLIX. Not to mention I have samples overflowing my cabinets at my place of work. I knew what the medication was and gave them the benefit of the doubt since they are a low-cost-vet and wanted to help them so I paid for it. If I had know that they were going to rake me over the coals I would not have taken the medication home. Also, the price of the medications were well above the given low cost and high cost range sheet that they made me sign. The staff is snotty, they steal your money, and make you feel like you aren't giving the best care of your animals. I guess you get what you pay for, huh?
