I brought my dog in to have a large cyst removed from her neck as recommended by Dr. Lowe at Frankford Animal Clinic. First impression of Bay View was a rude front desk attendant and a wait for Dr. Bartels to arrive late for an appointment. During the exam it was decided to operate to remove the cyst. After the cyst was removed my dog seemed to be doing better but after two days there was fluid buildup at the surgery location. I called Dr. Bartels office and let them know of the situation and was told to bring her in to have the fluid removed via syringe. This happened 3 times over the course of 3 weeks to the point that I decided to bring her to Frankford Animal Clinic to have her looked at. The first thing Dr. Gillespie said was “where is the drain tube?” After getting her wound drained for the fourth time and leaving it open so it could drain the operation site finally healed. I could tell that Dr. Gillespie was a bit shocked that there was that much fluid buildup and nothing had been done to let it drain. This of course cost us a lot of money and time as well as impacting the health of my dog. Get a second opinion if seeing Dr. Bartels.

I am fairly new to the area and did not know where to take my dog as a semi-emergency situation. I walked into Bay View and they took care of my situation immediately. The staff and Dr. Bartel were very compassionate and caring individuals who took very good care of my beloved pet (who is going to be fine). I would definitely recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone in the future.

I will NEVER take another pet to this clinic! I took my dog in after an accident and was told she needed surgery "immediately" and that she would basically live a miserable existence if I didn't give her the surgery, so I spent $1,800 on a surgery that was supposed to heal her and get her back on the road to recovery..... I ended up having to put my dog down about a month after the surgery because when I took her in for a check-up on her incision they told me her leg was not "healing correctly" and she would either have an amputated leg and be miserable and in pain, would have to have ANOTHER surgery, or would have to be put down. These people are cruel and show no sympathy what so ever. I am a full time college student and single mother and do not have thousands of dollars to spend on numerous surgeries that end up not even healing my dog. When we went in to have her put down Bartels NEVER even came to speak with us at all. We never even saw his face, and HE is the one who convinced me to have the first surgery done to begin with. He made me feel like a horrible pet owner so I would spend money I really didn't have to spend, only to have to put my precious angel down weeks later. Now, my 2 and a half year old daughter no longer has her puppy and I am out thousands of dollars. He is a sorry excuse for a vet, someone who is supposed to love animals and only want what is best for them. He led me to believe the surgery would make her okay again and get her back to her old self, when it did nothing but put her in pain and made her suffer for a month. I gave her her medication and did everything the way I should have done and this is what it got me with this vet!! Terrible staff as well. When we went in to have her put down one of the ladies at the front cut me off and told me "Okay well all we need is the paperwork now so get it done" and walked away. I will never ever recommend these people to ANYONE. Please save your pets!!!!!
