I have been a Wellness Plan customer with Banfield for almost 4 years. Today, I was there with my dog because at his last appointment they noticed some gunk in his ears and thought it might be an ear infection. Rather than pay their 32$ fee to look under a microscope,I opted to clean his ears every other day in the hopes that it was merely dirt build up. When we went today for them to recheck his ears, I was told that he did indeed have an ear infection, and that I would need to buy Tresaderm. I asked if there was a cheaper option than paying 46$ for the medicine and I was told no. So I bought the medicine and then found that I could buy it for 25-32$ cheaper through the people that I regularly get his medicine through. I tried to return the medicine,unopened, 5 minutes after I bought it and was told that because of Florida law they could not take it back. I requested a manager and the manager told me that there was nothing they could do because of Florida law, and the prices are set by corporate so he couldn't even price match it (although they can price match your preventative medicine, BTW). Overall, I got absolutely no help from the people at this Banfield when it came to this. When a customer asks you if there is a less expensive alternative, and there is, good customer service says that you help them out rather over charge them, and you don't give them a hard time because they want you to be fair with them. I am not the only person that this happened to either. There was a sweet old lady that overheard everything and found out the same way that I did that we got overcharged for our pets' medicines. Both she and I are looking into going to another vet where hopefully the corporate crap does not exist. There is so much more to this story than I can put on here, but don't have the time, and this rant is long enough already, but I will say that the Manager did not bat an eye when I told him they were losing a customer. If your customers are not that important to you then my pet and my business isn't either. NOTE: When I got home, I called BANFIELD CORPORATE to tell them about what happened and to cancel my Wellness Plan. The customer service representative kindly offered to waive the fee for next month's payment, which I agreed to, but in March I will be cancelling my pet's plan and going to our local vet closer to the house. A company that does not value customer service in person and being fair to your client does not get my business.
My dog ended up getting diarrhea back in October and she had it for a couple of days so I got worried and took her in. The doctor checked her out and was advise to get an expensive test done but I opted for the fecal exam under my own research that the fecal exam has a chance of checking for Giardia for less than the specific test the doctor suggested. Everything came out negative so I was sent home with probiotics, antibiotics and anti diarrhea medicine. I gave my dog the medications as advised down to the details. She stopped having diarrhea....but then she stopped pooping altogether! For a couple of days this went on and the morning my dog threw up, I called them to let them know I was coming in. So here I am with a sick dog, scared at what's happening and I couldn't even get the fricking doctor to come outside from the office to take a look at my dog. I had to play telephone with this doctor through the receptionist who had to keep walking in and out of that door to the counter. I dont know what the heck she was doing but she could have at least let me know how it will be for her to take a look at my dog. They wanted me to commit to a 400$ X Ray because they can't really know what's going on with her. I suggested that all that medications they put her on got her constipated and I wanted her examined WHICH is under her wellness plan. Finally I got the doctor ( who is brand new to the site) to take a look at her. All they could suggest to me was the x ray. I couldnt commit to that and explained I was a student and to what response I got? An application for a credit card that could be used for situations like this. What student qualify for a credit card?! It was like a slap in the face. I left the hospital visibly upset. Usually after every visit to Banfield I get a callback the very next day to see if everything was okay. I DID NOT GET ANY PHONE CALLS AT ALL. My dog could have been dead and they didnt even check back on their patient. BTW, my dog is fine. The medication clogged her up so badly and I found out that pure pumpkin puree does the trick for diarrhea and constipation for dogs. It literally cost me a dollar and some change. They had me pay 200$ to constipate my dog and then suggest to me to do a $400 x ray and then more for treatment. You have got to be kidding me. As a health care profession, you should be suggesting alternatives if a treatment plan is not going to work for your patient. What happened was unethical and pure shame. I am left disgusted with the brand Banfield and its staff. I did not take my dog back there and waited until my contract expired and did not receive any notifications that the contract is renewed automatically every year without NOTICE. AND ITS NONREFUNDABLE . But you paid for the month and the services are terminated immediately. That's right and that nice contract they sold to you at the beginning of the year has that clause in there. SO BE AWARE.
Do not fall for their scam. If you take your pet (family member) to this vet here is the scam. They will know the issue, lets say kidney failure but they will play dumb and test your pet for everything. They will then say it cost 700.00, 1000.00 or whatever to pay your bill and they will say we can set you up on our Optimum Wellness Plan and save you money…Lies!!! … You will save a lot of money on that bill but you never should have that bill to begin with and you will pay dearly later on. After doing research I found that any vet who can read and write will know kidney failure. I took my dying pet to them and she tested for everything but the kidney. My pet died soon after and I am paying a monthly fee for the next year and the cancellation terms are ridiculous. Banfield hopefully will have a class action suit against them soon which I will sign into.
They are expensive, unprofessional and always find something "wrong" with your pet that wont be covered by their $400 plans.
This is the worst vet that I have ever been to. They talked me into buying their insurance, I brought my perfectly healthy American Eskimo in for a teeth cleaning. She could barely walk when I got her back. After 2 weeks of taking her back there every other day and a mountain of billsthat the insurance didn't cover she had to be put down by the emergency vet. They did an x-ray and found that her back was broken. I'm sure that Banfield dropped her during her teeth cleaning because she was never the same. I would never recommend this place. BEWARE!!!
