After reading many positive reviews for Dr. Pepper, I decided to take my two year old male cat to the clinic. First, the office staff is quite nice, especially the assistant from the U.K. Unfortunately, that s where the niceties end. When I brought my cat in for a general physical last December, I was told the visit would only cost $57.50. When I went to the front to check out, I was presented with a bill for $184.00. Dr. Pepper took it upon himself, without approval, to add on services and tests. Despite being furious at this unprofessionalism, it was close to the holidays ,which are stressful enough, and I decided that I d have to be more specific in the future about making sure I was only being charged for what I asked for. Last week, my cat stopped using the litter box, stopped eating, and was generally lethargic. Within two days, he had become seriously ill. It was clear that immediate action was necessary. Being unemployed, I called the office to explain my situation and asked what options (payment plans, etc.) were available as it was clear my cat was in a crisis. After being put on hold for five minutes, the assistant on the phone relayed to me that Dr. Pepper has already extended credit to six or seven other clients and was no longer accepting clients unable to pay. Frantic, I was forced to call around to find a clinic that would help me out. I was able to locate a clinic off Jacaranda Road in Venice which is 30 miles each way. I got my cat in at 4:00 that day and not a moment too soon. My cat s bladder was completely blocked, and his kidneys had begun to shut down. He was within hours of death. Dr. Pepper is literally 5 minutes from my door and was chosen in part for convenience coupled with the positive reviews. Not only that, but I had always paid my bills at office visits. To be shunned when an animal s life is in danger bespeaks a mind beset by profits and poor judgment. Venice Veterinary Association of Jacaranda saved my young cat s life, provided top-notch care and compassion, and provided me with a shockingly low bill. They have gained a new patient, and Dr. Pepper has gained disdain. Shame on you.
Excellent vet, excellent staff and excellent facility! I can't express enough how much I like this office. Everyone on staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can tell they have a genuine concern for animals. They have great prices and no hidden fees or surprises at checkout.
