We have taken our dog to Happy Valley, for years, for grooming, and to be boarded. I have always found them to be very caring. Norma has been grooming him monthly, for 7yrs. We recently had to board him, for 2 weeks, very last minute, and they bent over backwards, to baby our precious dog. I would never hesitate, to take him to Happy Valley. He was upset about being away from us, and they did everything they could to comfort him, and encourage him to eat. I have always found Mike, and all of the staff, to be very helpful. I had to call from our cruise ship, while in South America, and they made me feel very reassured, and did everything to take care of things quickly, and safely, since we were in San Diego, when our baby had to be taken there, very last minute...They even contacted our Vet at Parkway for me, to get his shot records. They made a very stressful situation, smooth, and peaceful.
Took my dog here before going on a 7 day vacation and when I came back she had been feed, but her doggy bed was soaked with urine and looked as if they didn't take her out enough for her to go to the bathroom. My dog is potty trained. This daycare is not recommended and I will not take my dog back. I have to buy a new dog bed and a new nylon toy that they lost. It is not a free roam style of kennel as I thought. The workers have to slide the back of the cage to let the dog out. I had to let my dog poop and pee before putting her in my car and at home she drunk a full bowl of water like she was thirsty the whole day. I guess you have to pay more for a better doggy care place. I had wished that I would have checked the ratings beforehand. :-(
Although I have never boarded my dog here, I take him here to be groomed. The groomer Norma is the best my family has ever had experience with. We took our Lhasa Apso here for years and now I take my Shih Tzu there. Norma is always so good with out dogs and my pup is always excited to go. She listens really well when you tell her what you would like their hair to look like and it is very reasonably priced. I drop him off between 8 and 9 am and they usually call me to pick him up between 11 am and 12 pm. If you do take your dog to be groomed be sure to ask for Norma.
I have never written an online review before but after my experience with Happy Valley Kennels I felt compelled to warn others against doing business with them. I recently boarded my 12 year old dog, Duke, with this company and was shocked at how incredibly rude the owner, Mike Harris was to me. I decided to board Duke with them when I went away for the weekend. I dropped him off Friday at 4 pm and then picked him back up Monday afternoon at 4 pm after work. I was surprised to find they charged me a full extra day of boarding (18 dollars) since I was unable to pick him up by noon on Monday. Instead of haggling with Mr. Harris I politely paid my 72 dollar bill in full and afterwards suggested he charge the day boarding fee of 10 dollars instead the 18 dollar overnight rate for those who can't pick their pets up before noon. With this suggestion Mr. Harris became enraged and screamed thats how he has done business for 30 years. When I asked him why he was so upset by a simple suggestion he told me to "get out." In addition to the experience above I further do not recommend this company as I was overall unimpressed by the facilities. Also, my husband is active duty and currently deployed which is partly why l had to board Duke in the first place and they do not offer any discount for this. I specifically asked if they had a military discount when I called to reserve a space for Duke and was informed they did however they failed to tell me it only applies when you are in the process of moving. I found this out as I was paying my bill.
This was our first time kenneling our in this area and from the reviews above we thought it would be great. The gentlemen we dropped her off with was caring and kind. However it was definitely the opposite. We left our 3 year old blue heeler/collie here for 6 days with a bed, her food, and a chewy. To start she is completely potty-trained has never tried to mark any furniture or carpet. When we picked her up she had urinated multiple times on her bed and she smelt of it. When she ran outside she urinated and pooped like she had not gone all day. The indoor/outdoor run does not have any grass in it. They are expected to "do their business" on a concrete slab. WE FOUND OUT AFTERWARD THAT YOU CAN PAY $2.50 PER A 15 MINUTE WALK IF YOU WOULD LIKE (RIDICULOUS) otherwise they seem to stay in the kennel with little human contact. They did nothing to help our dog not lay in her urine since there was multiple stains some which had dried. They handed us the bed saying it was too big for them to wash. Since they are also a grooming place you would think they would know it was unsanitary for dog to live like that and would have given her a bath. Finally as a disclaimer our dog most likely does not know how to use a doggy door which I think is how they get to the outside slab of concrete. However we were not offered a tour or asked any questions like such (they knew it was our first time). I will not take my dog back here again and you should be warned to to ask about the conditions quite thoroughly.
