My regular veterinarian referred me and my cat to IVRC for a consult with their visiting cardiologist, Dr. Olson, after I expressed my reluctance to return to Iowa Veterinary Specialties, where we had experienced appalling customer service and money-grubbing. My cat was diagnosed by an IVS provider as having hypertrophic cardiomyopathy--a potentially fatal condition marked by enlargement of the heart muscle. Since that diagnosis (which was accompanied by excessive fees and a daily medication regimen), my cat has shown zero clinical signs/symptoms of this condition, save for a slight heart murmur. Given the nature of his diagnosis, however, we were advised by our regular (wonderful) vet to seek periodic follow-up echocardiograms and radiographs to assess the disease's progression. My impressions upon arrival for our appointment at IVRC and departure following were extremely positive--a complete 180 degrees from what we dealt with at IVS. The front desk staff are kind, the technician we saw was so sweet and loving toward my cat, and there aren't enough complimentary terms in the dictionary for Dr. Olson. Not only did she recommend procedures that were strictly medically necessary (no padding of the bill here!), but she allowed me to accompany my cat into the echo exam and spent nearly 30 minutes walking me through the process and answering my questions. Her manner and treatment of my beloved cat was kind and professional. To top it off, she determined that he had been MISDIAGNOSED by the vet at IVS--his heart is perfectly normal!! As in, no heart disease for which he has been receiving medication for nearly two years!! Turns out the vet who initially diagnosed him improperly specializes in infectious diseases and neurology, not cardiology, which likely explains why he had no idea what he was dealing with. If a practice like IVS is going to charge exorbitant fees for services, the very least they can do is pair an appropriate provider with your companion animal's medical needs. Anyway, I was thrilled to receive such good news about my cat's health status, and felt the charges for his visit were reasonable. For compassionate, respectful, competent care, I highly recommend IVRC and Dr. Olson in particular. (FYI, she only travels to the clinic once a month from Minnesota.)
Went to have our 4 month old pup looked at after potentially eating a sock. After thorough investigation, decided to have surgery to remove the blockage. Excellent care from beginning to end. Receptionist, Dr Warren and Dr Riemer where all great to work with. Pleased to say, the final bill was well below the estimated cost. That was a nice surprise. Next time, I'm going to ask them to put a zipper in my dogs belly. He loves eating socks. ;-) Thanks everyone.
Very professional and courteous service. very caring and attentive to the pet and family. honest.they don't run unnecessary tests and labs. you know your animal is being very well cared for. University of Iowa should be ashamed for trying to stop this practice
