I had taken my cat peewee in for urgent care, she was received quickly and with compassion. She was attended to by several Veterinarians, Dr. Leah Braas and Technician Zach Wright, both of whom were attentive, professional and kept me updated throughout her examination. The reception staff was just as responsive and considerate. All avenues of treatment and costs were discussed and clearly stated. As a result of my experience, two additional pets will become patients at IVS. Knowing the treatment they will receive makes the possibility of any unfavorable diagnosis less of a gut-punch.

we have used this facility a couple times over the 14 years of our English Setter. I appreciate the breakdown of possible expenses that could be incurred should one decide to treat immediately on site, and the option to stabilize your pet until morning, so you can transport to your own vet and have them treated in a familiar setting. the staff has always been professional and passionate in the care given to our pet. keep up the good work

Awful experience. Over priced, rude, and all around a terrible business. I wouldn't send a dead rat there, though it would be fitting because the practice is full of them.

I brought my german shepherd here at 3am on a Monday morning. The staff was extremely understanding of how worried I was and treated my dog, who is very timid and shy, with extreme kindness. I disagree with the previous comments of cost, because you pay for what you get. This business must pay for veterinarians to be there 24/7 and provide your pet with medical services at the same time. I really appreciated the staff and would recommend any of my friends to this clinic in an emergency situation.

OBNOXIOUS ABOUT MONEY AND CLEARLY BUYING GOOGLE REVIEWS! READ THIS AND BEWARE!!!! My boyfriend and I took our cat here on the weekend as he had been vomiting and losing weight. When we arrived, we were first introduced to Dr. Bolser and he told us we needed to run a bunch of blood tests, x rays and put him on IV nutrition. We signed a fairly lofty estimate and were immediately shaken down for the first of many "deposits". Throughout the course of the weekend, we spoke to three other doctors-each of which informed us that we needed more testing and they needed more money-which we paid. On Monday, he was transferred to Dr. Olson who told us that he needed to do an ultrasound and they needed more money. I should have figured it out by then, but we felt as though we were at their mercy and they did the ultrasound. He then called us and explained that the results were unclear and they needed to put a camera in his stomach to see what the problem was. They just needed another $1800 from us. Our vet was open by now, so we called them and thank goodness they suggested that we go get our cat and take him to see them. We took him there, they look at him for about three minutes, figure it out immediately, put him on pills that cost 7 dollars and here we are several months later and he is perfect again. My gripe is that every time he breathed, someone called us and shook another 600 dollars out of us making us feel like if we didn't pony up, he would die. Fortunately, my neighbor works for our vet and explained to us that Iowa State bought that clinic several years ago and runs it as a "non-profit". Sounds great, but she showed me a copy of the IRS form that they have to release to the public. It explained why our cat's medical bill was nearly $2500 there with no answers, and was $73 dollars at our normal hospital complete with cure. I don't know what my veterinarian makes but I am sure it is less than the $176,000 that Dr. Olson made last year, or the $114,000 that Dr. Bolser made. "Non-profit" indeed!!! Explains why we were frisked down over the phone every six hours, someone has to cover their exorbitant salaries . Now the Google reviews. I'm no technophile, but I looked at their reviews, and there are certainly others that echo our gouging experience, but there were some that offered great reviews which surprised me, so I looked into them. All of them offer 5 stars and vanilla "they informed me and treated me great" experiences. All five of these people have very common names and their profiles list them as living in Iowa. But when I looked at their reviews, my skin crawled. They all have overlapping reviews of four businesses scattered on all sides of the state and say nothing committal--just the five stars and "blah, blah, blah". Obviously trolls that are purchased to boost ratings!!! Here are my examples: "Miriam Day" Reviews of Quad City Orthodontics in Bettendorf and Iowa Veterinary Specialties "Wayne Smith" Reviews of Quad City Orthodontics in Bettendorf and Iowa Veterinary Specialties "Lisa Russell" Haines Insurance in Mason City R. Menden Accounting and Tax Service in Shakopee, Minnesota and Iowa Veterinary Specialties "Terry Jones" Reviews of Quad City Orthodontics in Bettendorf Haines Insurance in Mason City and Iowa Veterinary Specialties "Jay Harmon" So far just Iowa Veterinary Specialties but I just have this sneaking suspicion that he is soon to require braces in Bettendorf So from my perspective there are two potential explanations for this--either Miriam Day, Wayne Smith, Lisa Russell, Terry Jones and Jay Harmon share one car and each have terrible teeth, sick dogs and only buy insurance in Mason City or it is just possible that Iowa Veterinary Specialties bought fake Google reviews like a used car dealer would to lure people in and cover up their bad reviews from real customers. I'm not sure which explanation is more plausible..... I would expect this from a car dealer--but not Iowa State University. Shame on you ISU and glad that I'm a UNI grad!
