The dr and staff were fantastic.. The staff asked all the right questions. Not everyone is knowledgeable about ferrets, and it was refreshing, the day after Christmas, stressed out with a sick baby, to be have knowledgeable staff. My only complaint? I wish they were closer! Thank you for the great service and the great staff!
This was the worst vet experience I have had in my life as a dog owner. The vets and staff were cold, unfriendly and uncommunicative. They overcharged for procedures and constantly pushed for surgery. When we wanted to explore other options before proceeding with what was acknowledged as an exploratory surgery, we were treated will callousness, rudeness and insensitivity (note: he did make a full recovery without needing surgery). It was hard to get a straight answer from the vet about my dog's condition. There was no sensitivity to the emotional nature of a pet being seriously ill like I've experienced with every other vet I've gone to. We never went back and I don't recommend it to others- I had much better experiences elsewhere in town.
I have a unique situation because I am a veterinarian, and I needed to use a 24-hour facility for care for my own miniature dachshund puppy. (My clinic offers emergency care to our patients but does not have a 24-hour staff present.) I actually had to visit twice because my puppy had a congenital defect that caused her to become very sick. The defect wasn't absolutely apparent during her first visit (symptoms not consistent with it), thus the second visit. Both times were late night visits and the first time, I was seen quickly, and my puppy stayed overnight for intensive care. I was able to pick her up the next day after finally sleeping and was over the moon that my puppy was back to her bouncing self. Bloodwork showed an infection and she responded well to IV fluids and antibiotics. The second time, my very sick puppy was sleeping when we arrived, and I honestly thought it was peacefully, but she ended up being full-on neurologic by the time I was seen a couple of hours later. I don't blame the staff for my wait because she wasn't showing symptoms of distress and there were other emergencies being seen. As soon as we discovered how badly she was doing, the staff jumped to immediately start diagnostics and treatments. We were able to determine that she probably had a certain type of congenital defect, and Dr. Berger was great in advising me on further diagnostics and surgery at Iowa State. Follow up calls were courteous and prompt, and everyone dealt with me wonderfully when I called multiple times the night of the second visit to try to help determine what was wrong and help formulate a treatment plan. I was extremely happy that they let me visit my baby while she was staying with them and was extremely pleased with the level of care that she received. I had always recommended BEBT for 24 hour care for cases that I didn't think should go home after seeing them for emergency treatment, but after my personal experiences there, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to everyone.
This is a fantastic clinic! Dr. Allan Berger is one of the most intelligent veterinarians I have ever met. He uses up-to-date medical knowledge along with years of experience. I feel like my cat gets top-notch treatment every time we visit. Dr. Berger and Dr. Conant did an excellent job of explaining the options and treating my cat’s bladder tumor. I am so grateful I don’t have to travel far for 24 hour emergency care!
I would not recommend this clinic. They discharged my dog after a serious surgery, when she was still very sick, running a fever, not eating, and she had a very red and inflamed incision. The night they discharged her I was very concerned, but a doctor was still unavailable after waiting another almost 2 hours (we had waited almost an hour and a half the first night to have her seen). Finally we gave up and asked the vet tech for his opinion, and he said the fever was not that worrisome and that her incision did not look infected. The next day we were back at the clinic because her incision was oozing blood. They did an ultrasound, said they found nothing, and sent her home with some very expensive new antibiotics. The next day we had an incredibly sick, in pain, miserable dog. There was no way I was taking her back so I took her to an Animal Hospital in the Quad Cities. They said they were surprised she made it through the night. She had a severe infection of her incision and very serious infections inside her gut. This animal hospital immediately operated on her and saved her life. BEBT missed a lot of early warning signs, and had very poor communication between doctors. One doctor would call and seem concerned, and the next would call to say everything was fine. The wait times were very long in order to see anyone, especially a vet. I am not sure that my dog would be here today if I hadn't transferred her care. I don't usually write poor reviews but I don't want the same experience for anyone else.
