I have taken my dogs to the animal hospital for 20 years. In the past two years however, I have found that appointments are difficult to obtain. I have also found that if there is an emergency, I was referred to the emergency clinic in Grayslake far too often when they were open for more than an hour/even a day, because there were no open appointments. (I know this sounds excessive, but I had adopted a puppy with pneumonia etc... I have 4 dogs) This caused me to take my pet to the clinic in the middle of the day....try different clinics in the area to see if they could see a "new client," etc... Although the emergency clinic does fine work, I think many pet owners realize that it costs triple what vet services would normally cost. Needless to say, after 20 years I am leaving the clinic/hospital. It just doesn't work for me. The folks are nice, they did a nice job in the past, but they just are not willing to help long standing customers. I have found service elsewhere.
I would like to say the Antioch Animal Hospital has been very caring throughout the lives of the many rescue dogs I have owned and brought there--for both routine and severe health issues. I have been going there for nearly 20 years. Each doctor has been wonderful to us. I have received emotional support when I had to make the final decision that no loving pet owner wants to make. The staff at the front desk are organized, kind and very helpful and professional. My experience has always been great and I've owned 9 rescue dogs by now, Cocker Spaniels and Golden Retrievers. Definitely take your dogs there. And thank you to all the fine people there. A fan, Lynne Donoghue (plus Emme, Pepper, Sonny, and Juliet, as well as Pearl, Buddy, Maddy, Willie, and Boomer in heaven)
These people are are insensitive idiots! Watch out for people behind the front desks, because they are especially snobby. They were nothing but rude and inconsiderate when I bought my dog there for a vet appointment and a grooming. First, we were told she needed a shot-they even sent us a postcard in the mail telling us our dog was due for her shot. The vet said she didn't need the shot, and yet the people at the front desk tried to schedule a shot for her after her grooming. When I called back to talk to them they were extremely rude and told me that it was my fault that I didn't know my dog didn't need a shot, even after they admitted they typed my dog's information wrong into the computer and that they did send the postcard confirming the shot. Stay away from them!
I do have to say I brought my pup (well 8yr old pup) in for an emergency and they cared for me and my buddy very well. I was very thankful for the kindness they provided me. I didn't know what to expect when he came back home but he was perfect. They did our family a great service. I felt the price was extreamly fair and they provided us exactly what we needed. We have been customers for years and haven't had any issues. We have had 2 pets spayed / neutered, 1 emergency surgery and many annual check ups and all have gone smooth. I have never had to wait too long for appointments and they always find room to fit us in over the years. Thank you for the service you have given our pets.
My dog was dying of kidney failure and Dr. P. told me my dog had 24-48 hours to live. YET, they did a heartworm test on her LAST DAY of life and charged me appr. $50 for it. They didn't tell us about it, we noticed it on the bill. My dog was there for 3 days and they didn't communicate well with us to at least let us know what was going on. They are very insensitive and it seems they just want to rip you off as best as they can. I kind of also agree with the reviewer who wrote about poor diagnostic skills.
