I have been going to Chatham Vet for at least 10 years now. Although the staff may seem impolite at times, I believe it's due to all the people who come there who really only care about cheap vet care, not about their pet. The doctors don't care about the money or whether you like their lobby. They care about your animals. I know this to be true as I have seen all of 3 of the doctors get teary eyed when they have bad news and I see how they treat my dogs. I'm not there to be doted on, my dogs are. So, for complaining about your wait, or whether the place looks like it's out of the 70s, who cares. Without them, I couldn't afford to have 3 dogs that I rescued from the APL and having them going strong after 10 years+.

I had to update my dogs shots for the first time and a family member recommend this place. Now I accidentally went to the wrong clinic first (Illini clinic) which was very nice inside and out, friendly staff and smiley faces. I then back tracked to the correct clinic. My first opinion was that the outside was beat up, the parking lot was dirt and gravel which in the melting snow meant I would get paw prints in my car. There was no clear entrance but luckily I picked the right door. The lady at the front desk told me to wait even though there was no line and seemed to be uninterested in any friendliness. The waiting room had dirty floors and the walls looked like they haven't be touched up in years. I took my seat and there was no one else before me, it took maybe 3 minutes for the tech to come out and get me and my dog. We took the weight in what looked like a lunch/break room. Then proceeded down a hallway to the last room which also had poor appearance quality. The tech was very nice and knowledgeable about the procedure and the cost of everything, although the price was different then what I was quoted over the phone. The tech left to get the doctor which took maybe another 3 minutes. The doctor came back and administered the shots and was open to all of my questions, did not seem to be in a rush at all. Took the time was very personable and friendly. I was walked to the front desk and the tech waited for the receptionist to free up to dismiss herself. The lady who took my payment also seemed like I was "bothering her with my presence." By the time I was finished there was more people in the waiting room as well as I over heard a walk-in although I remember the phone message saying they don't accept walk ins. The rest was straight forward and pretty good over all. I would recommend this place to friends and family. (I did get muddy paw prints in my car though.)

I have been going since 1994. As other reviewers pointed out, it is a very busy vet clinic and sometimes you do wait as they get emergencies. Frankly, I prefer their loyalty to animals and will gladly wait for an animal in need. I love Dr. Boyce and enjoyed his family when they worked there. Dr. Rachel was a great cat vet!! I loved Dr. Lynch and his wife kept things organized. I have seen a difference as front office is very busy and hectic. However other than waiting on the phone to make appointments for all my pets, which is frustrating, I think everyone tries their best. I have waited when I had an appointment sometimes as there was an animal needing emergency care. I would get that care if one of my animals had an emergency so I don't mind waiting through the emergencies. Other times I get in and out fast. The staff can't really know what each day will bring. The Chatham Veterinary Clinic is a strong advocate for animals and their owners. I prefer and have confidence in the country atmosphere. The staff is honest, hardworking, and try to accomodate all my pet needs. If you want a brand new office, vets who don't take emergencies immediately, and more staff---then go somewhere else. I like the value, the care, and the location. It is worth the drive for me to know my pets are getting great care!!

My family had been taking our pets to Chatham Vet for a span of 15 years. Not only has the staff been rude and lazy but the wait time is ridiculous- even with an appointment. I can understand being late at times but 9 out of 10 times we went there was an hour to three hours wait- WITH an appointment. If it wasn’t for the great doctors and lower prices- I would have quit going sooner than I did with my pets. The last time I called my dog was very ill (I called three times in a 4 hour period- each time she said to call back in 30-45 minutes) but was rudely told each time the doctor was too busy for me and she told me almost verbatim "if you think it is such an emergency then go to another clinic." Thank you girl who answered the phone because I did just that and haven’t been happier or more relieved to move on to another vet clinic. To top it off- when I spoke with one of the doctors to let them know how rude the other staff was he smirked and said they’ve had a lot of issues with them. REALLY?? You lose clients that way! So far anyone I talk to that asks I make sure I deter them from going there.
