I first went to Creekside the day I adopted my cat Micky in December 2004. I have been going there ever since, including when I took in two farm-abandoned kittens in July 2011. I saw Dr. Keenan a few times in 2005-2006 when Micky was having bladder infections, and Keenan spent several minutes discussing options with me during each visit. It was really nice that she took the time to explain things and told me what I could do for Micky that was within my means (broke college student back then). I've been scheduled with Dr. Schilling the last several visits, mostly because she's the doc that has seen my new kittens since I first got them. She knows their personalities and medical histories without a glance at their charts, which is impressive, and she really listens. Even asks me how Micky is acclimating to the new cats and makes notes about what some people might consider "little" things (e.g., to examine Micky first next time, because even though Micky's usually well-behaved with the vet, when she watches the other cats go first, she is difficult and testy during her own exam). Trying to theorize about animal behavior is difficult when the animals have a limited way of telling you that something is wrong, but she always helps me put pieces of the puzzle together. The doctors at Creekside never try to rush you out the door, nor do they try to get you to spend your money unnecessarily. I have a respectable job, health insurance, etc... Yet, my cats have better doctors than I do.
I'm shocked to read the review below. We also had a similar situation with a broken tooth in the past. We did not see Dr Keenan so I can not comment on her personality. We saw Dr Clark who explained to use that as the pet ages the pulp of the tooth gets so much smaller in diameter that there is rarely pain associated with a broken tooth. He explained that pulling an otherwise healthy took can be a very difficult procedure. He did tell us that if for ANY reason my dog acted like he did not want to chew on the tooth or if there was any swelling to call back and they would then schedule to remove the tooth. We went through the risk versus benefit to putting my dog under anesthesia to remove this tooth that was not bothering my dog, but was bothering me. In the end it was my decision and Dr Clark said that he would do whatever I wanted, but was honest when he said if it was his dog he would wait. I did wait and decided to let them re-evaluate the tooth and my dogs next dental cleaning. There was still no damage to the root ( around 18 months later ) but I opted to have them pull the tooth any how since my dog was already under anesthesia. I am so thankful that this Veterinarian was not just out to collect my money and gave me honest advice - while allowing me to make the decision once I was well informed about the options. The techs are always so sweet and they DO look at my pets and give them kisses, treats. I have never had a pet given cookies or ATTEMPTED to be fed treats on a scheduled surgery day. Maybe the tech knew what the owner didn't. That the pet would not be having surgery that day no matter what because that is something that must be scheduled in advance not done in an appointment. Sad that someone would bad mouth a vet for saving them money and trying to be nice to their pet. What more can you ask for?
