We started taking our elderly cat to Dr. Helten several years ago when she lost a lot of weight and wasn't acting well. Dr. Helten performed several tests and explained what they were for and even why some weren't necessary. When the test results came back, he took the time to explain what her problems were. He recommended medication and demonstrated how to give it to our cat. Within a short time our cat gained weight and became much more energetic. She even started playing chase with some of her toys again. This says a lot since she was 16 years old at the time! Dr. Helten also informed us when a cheaper alternative to the medication became available. Our cat lived another 4 years with Dr. Helten keeping her feeling well. When it came time to put her down, the clinic staff were very considerate, understanding and supportive of the decision. They gave me time alone to say good bye and her passing was peaceful. After having our girl for 20 years I appreciated the compassion that the clinic staff displayed. Since that time a new kitten has arrived in our home. We take her to Dr. Helten as well and he has addressed any issues that have come up. He took the time to call and check in after her surgery to ensure that she is healing properly. We have appreciated the personal care we have gotten at the Helten Clinic.

Dr. Helten takes the time to properly explain issues related to your pets health. I love the fact that he does not recommend a bunch of unnecessary tests and procedures like many other vets. He seems to take a logical approach to solving problems rather than overacting to minor problems.

My husband called to see how much it would cost to bring our guinea pig in to get checked out and get her teeth filed. They told him $24.50 plus the cost of the teeth (which would vary). I called back later that day to schedule an appointment and was told the exact same thing. After carelessly trimming her teeth (I'll explain more in a minute) we went to pay. We were charged just under $50 ($49.something) for the office visit and $20 for the teeth. We said that we were both told the office visit would be $24.50 and he just said we must have been misquoted the price. Both of us were told one price and we were charged DOUBLE! Plus the cost of trimming the teeth... Dr. Helten was very rough with our guinea pig. He cut her lips at least 2 times. Once could be considered an accident, but twice or more is CARELESSNESS! He also trimmed her bottom tooth so low that it was bleeding from the middle of the tooth. Money is tight right now and our vet we use for our dog doesn't see guinea pigs. I chose Helten because of the price and we could get in right away. BAD IDEA. I was not at all impressed with the care my pet received. Dr. Helten was rough with her and cut her multiple times. And as far as the price goes, it doesn't matter. They ended up doubling it. I would not reccomend this vet to anybody and wish someone had stopped us from seeing him. My poor guinea pig =[
