I have been going to LVS for over 3 years. I would have given them a 3 star before last night. They are expensive and very $$$ focused however their care for my pets has been a good quality. However the last visit with my dog was with a less than compassionate doc and last night I had a cat with a big emergency, they put me on hold and left me there 2x on my way there and when I got there they put us in a waiting room had us begin to fill out paperwork again (after thousands +++++++of dollars spent at their facility) then came in and said sorry we wont be able to see you for 2 hours and sent us to wonderful emergency hospital that would have been 20minutes closer to my house had they bothered to take us off hold on the way there. WE went to Metropolotin and are extremely happy as are most people from their google reviews.
I would definately recommend this hospital. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, brought her to see Dr. Day to find out what my options were. Dr. Day was very, very nice and explained (in terms that I could understand) the best for chemotherapy treatment available. During the course of chemotherapy, I made many trips to LVSES and every member of the staff that I met was extremely nice and courteous. I thought their prices were reasonable for a specialty and emergency hospital. I will definately take my pets to LVSES in the future if I have and emergency or need a specialist.
The service performed was very good, but it took an hour to pay and get the discharge papers. The technician at the front said there was only one vet, but also that they were always busy on Sundays. Seems like the owner is a better vet than a business person. I actually saw the vet working with another client/patient on a non-emergency situation while I was waiting. There were others in the lobby waiting to pay and leave as well. I have no issues at all with the care given however.
Dr. Erica Tolar and the entire staff we dealt with were nothing short of INCREDIBLE !! Dr. Tolar was exceptionally special. I drove from near St.Louis Mo. to help my grandmother, whom lives in south eastern IL, to take her dog for eye surgery. My grandmother is an extremely sharp and intelligent lady at 89 yrs old. However, managing the drive of over two hours (BEFORE the I-64 bridge closure!!) along with the concerns of her very loved daily companion, "Bo", going through cataract surgery had grandmother somewhat on edge. Bo's eye surgery involved a 'pre-op' check up, the surgery the next day, then 'post-op' check up the day after surgery. Then, a week later another follow up check, and two weeks after that yet another check up. This sounds like a lot but, it actually was quite a pleasure visiting the hospital and staff. Dr. Tolar was spectacular with "Bo" while explaining everything including neccessary medicines and Bo's needs to my grandmother in a comforting and calming manner. You could tell, without a doubt, this was a place where the employees actually enjoyed what they do. And, this reflected well in our experience. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tolar & the whole LVSES clinic. I myself am 48yrs old, always had dogs, and have never experienced anything as positive and wonderful at any animal hospital or clinic anywhere-ever!!! Thank you Dr. Tolar and LVSES entire staff!! "Bo" now has his vision back, clear brown eyes again, and is doing great.
It was a holiday and our dog had been vomiting and had diarrhea all weekend long. Our on-call vet suggested we take him into Louisville, thinking he had eaten an object that he shouldn't have (we didn't suspect this because that is not like him at all). However, we took him into LVSES for fear of dehydration. The front desk staff was very friendly and caring, and our dog was very excited to be there - it was funny - he wasn't even acting sick! Their office visit prices were better than the other emergency vet in Louisville. Once we were seen by the doctor, she said the initial exam looked good but showed some dehydration, and she suggested labs, xray, and overnight stay for fluids. I thought this sounded like overkill, so we started with labs, which came back good (what a relief!). Since he was a dog never known for chewing on things, we decided not to do the xrays. And even though they wanted to keep him overnight for IV fluids, we opted for an injection of fluids and took him home. It would have been $900 but instead we left for around $300. The shot of fluids, and special food they sent us home with did the trick! It must have been a virus. He was almost good as new a few hours after we got home. So, even though I feel like we received good care, I did feel like they were definitely jumping the gun and trying to sell us an overnight stay where one wasn't warranted. So, I'd recommend this place, but once your have your options, go with your gut and use your own judgment. We could have always gone back if he had a turn for the worse....
