brought my friend when her dog was hit by a car. They wouldn't help till she filled out paper work and demanded 200.00 before they would even call for the vet who was not on site. Her dog was badly hurt we left and went to Sherwood south and they where awesome!

my dog was in pretty bad shape when i brought him in. blood in his stool and throwing up blood. they never figured out completely what it was but his chart showed that it could be anything from something he ate to a virus. the people here were so helpful and so kind. i am ever so grateful for the kind staff who helped me deal with everything from cleaning the bloody throw up off myself... to the payment options... to helping me fill out paper work when my brain was in panic mode. this was the best place i could have brought him. word of advice though, dont wait until after 12am if you can help it... the prices double after 12.

Look elsewhere before going to this vet. I waited several months to review BRPEH so that my review would not appear biased or emotional. I brought my 2 year old dog to BRPEH on a week night after my dog became very ill and disoriented. After we arrived, we found that they were taking care of an injured cat. I understand that they cannot see all patients at once, but they did not even glance at my dog or simply ask what the emergency was for 45 minutes. I cannot comment on the vet's technical skills. He did the standard procedures, checking vitals and taking x-rays. About $600 later, he notified me that he could not determine my dog's ailment. His best guess was anaphylactic shock, so he decided to put her on steroids. At this point, he told me to go home and pick her up in the morning. About three hours later, I received a call from the vet to tell me that my dog had died. According to the vet, "when they went to check on her she was not doing well so they put her down". I find it very hard to believe that during those three hours there were no signs that she was not going to make it. The vet could not provide me with an explanation for this. To this day, I do not blame the vet for my dogs passing... that is life. Rather, I believe I should have received some kind of notification that my dog was about to be put down. My dog and I had a tight bond and I truly believe she would have wanted me to be there with her. Instead, she spent 3 hours slowly dying in an emergency room, completely alone. I cannot tell anyone that they are or are not able to save your pet, but if they are not, they will show little compassion for your loss.

I rushed my female Great Dane to this hospital around 8 PM one night because she was very ill. I had already done my research and was about 75 percent sure she had Eclampsia (Milk Fever) considering she had a high fever, swollen gland in nipple, and had just recently given birth. First, it took the doctor about 25 minutes to come in to see her. I thought this was odd considering this was an emergency situation and the only other dog in there was fine. When the doctor finally did show up he took blood work, X-Rays, gave her fluids, and gave her an Oxytosin shot (even after listening to what I suspected the problem to be). An hour or so later he sent her home with Antibiotics and said he did not know what was wrong with her. My bill was about $600! The next week I took her to Dr. Breaux's in Gonzales because the swelling in her nipple got worse. Dr. Breaux diagnosed it as ECLAMPSIA! The next emergency situation we had, we brought in our Great Dane puppy after it had accidently been ran over. They told us he had a punctured lung, broken leg, it's liver was probably bleeding. They said they were not "equipped" to deal with this sort of emergency, then given our $300 bill, and sent to LSU Emergency Clinic. When we arrived and they assessed the situation, they said that it's lung was NOT punctured, it only had fluid in his lungs and his liver was not bleeding. I will never bring my pets to this place again....

I have a cat who was in the care of the emergency clinic for almost a week. He didn't seem to be monitored at all. I came to visit him on a daily basis and I'm the one who consistently discovered he had chewed his urinary catheter out. Even after requesting he be fitted with an e-collar to prevent this, they did not put one on him. He continued to pull it out and had to be sedated each time to replace it. This added up to quite the bill, of which I refused to pay a portion because they had not done their job. The technicians were nice for the most part even though they never returned any of my phone calls or seemed to know the status of my cat. My main complaint is with one of the vets. He was never there, not even during emergency hours, and had always "run an errand". Next time we need emergency services, we'll go to LSU.
