This is the worst Veterinarian in the world. If you want to spend way too much money, get unnecessary tests and treatments, and then be made to feel bad about being a pet owner every visit, go here. They constantly recommended more and more treatments and tests, including prescription foods to supposedly help one of my dogs lose weight. I already use Blue Buffalo weight control food so I'm not using Ole Roy or some other cheap junk. Their estimate on what he should weigh though was at least 10 lbs lower than any other vet, and not realistic unless he got down to a bone bag. My new vet (Animal Care Center) in Joppa is farther away, but I went in and asked for what my dog should weigh, and they matched what my old veterinarian in another state had always said, and that was only 1-2 lbs lower than his current weight, not 12 lbs lower. In a 30 lb dog that is a HUGE difference.) When one of my dogs got an aggressive cancer they gave me a hard time about not wanting to do all kinds of treatments and tests. She was a 12 year old Shepherd mix. Their estimate was that the surgery was going to cost $3K to $5K and maybe more. They flat out said she probably wouldn't survive the surgery, and if she did she may only live another year after. During the first 6 months she'd have to be in a cage almost constantly to try to immobilize here since they were cracking her chest open. She had never spent a day in a cage in her life so that would have been torture. I opted to have her put down to stop her suffering, and the people all just kept acting like I was being a cheapskate. I had already spent almost $2K on the tests and lab work so far. I would have spent the money if she would have had a full recovery and happy life. I wasn't going to torture her to keep her around for maybe one more year. That would have been the selfish option. With our cats they were just as bad. They wanted our male cat on prescription weight control food. All vets before or since say he could stand to lose a lb or two but he's a fixed male cat and because of the types he is, he'll be stockier. Our other cat started to lose weight slowly for no apparent reason even though she eats like a horse. They checked her out and wanted to do some extra diabetes testing and put her on insulin. I don't know what they couldn't find out about on their already over priced blood work. Our new vet immediately said she had a slight thyroid issue after her first standard blood work. She's on a half a pill twice daily and they are very cheap pills through the vet. The old vet did the same bloodwork and never brought that up, there were chasing phantom diabetes that my new vet has said there is no reason to suspect. These guys are just out to gauge you every chance they get. They prey on unsuspecting pet owners in their times of need, and if you dare to question them or their expensive treatments they say you shouldn't be cheap and should do what the doctor says. Even though that doctor only runs in the room for a few seconds, mixes up information between your animals if you bring in multiple at once, and then takes lots of extra days off. My wife and I had vets we trusted for many years until we moved to the area. This was the closest place when I needed to get my dogs in somewhere fast to get them shots to stay on base. I should have looked further and asked friends like I eventually did. I can't think of any redeeming quality of this place and will highly recommend everyone stays away until they shutter their business.
This morning I had to put my beloved dog down but after calling Animal Hospital of Havre de Grace, where Storm has been going since we adopted her in 2001, I realized that the Animal Hospital is NOT A HOSPITAL, they are simply just a vet clinic. When I called them this morning and explained to them that I had an emergency with Storm, they told me that they had appointments only, that the doctor wouldn't be in for an hour. That basically goes to show you that they in fact are NOT an animal HOSPITAL. This is the 2nd time that we have had this encounter with the Animal Hospital of Havre de Grace. My family and I feel completely disrespected in our time of need. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.
I have never been seen for our appointments ON TIME. I have waited at least 30 minutes after our appointment OR MORE every single time! Not only that, but everything was insanely expensive. I told the Vet about my tight financial situation after rescuing a cat from being hit by a car who turned out to be pregnant AND we had the kittens, and he still tried to run a vast amount of unnecessary tests that I could not afford. Now I am in debt, and my cats are no different than they were before I drained my bank account.
