My cat Mr Boots was gravely ill when I took him to Frederick Emergency Animal Hospital on New Years Day 2013. I can't say enough good things about the staff. As soon as I arrived, Cindy at the front desk immediately took him to the back to been seen by Dr. Wolff - no questions asked, no paperwork to complete first. They got him started on IV fluids right away due to his extreme dehydration. Dr. Wolff is very knowledgable and very caring, she kept me up to date on what she was doing to diagnose the problem. Once the blood work and X-rays were complete she went over everything with me and was very up-front about what she suspected the problem was and what I could expect the cost to be for care and surgery. Dr. Wolff operated on Mr Boots once his condition stabilized and her diagnosis was exactly correct. The cat had eaten an 18 inch piece of holiday ribbon and it was lodged in his stomach. Dr. Wolff called me once the surgery was over to let me know how it went and what she found. I have no doubt that Dr. Wolff and the staff saved my cats life. I called every 3 hours until late in the evening to check on the cat's condition and was always greeted with a friendly voice and given an update. We will be forever grateful to Frederick Emergency Hospital, Dr. Wolff and all the staff for all they did. Mr. Boots is home now and recovering very well. **Note** I had taken my cat to his regular the day before the visit to Frederick Emergency Animal Hospital. Despite telling the vet on duty several times that there was something wrong with the cat and I suspected he may have eaten something he shouldn't have I was brushed off and told the cat probably had a stomach bug because she didn't detect anything during a quick physical exam. I was sent home with cat Pepcid and told to "watch" him. Needless to say that particular vet will never touch another one of my pets. My point is if you as a pet owner know there is something wrong with your pet - trust yourself and push for action - I wish I would have - it almost cost my pet his life........
I would never take another animal to this hospital. I rushed my dog to the hospital in the middle of the night, because I was afraid he was bloating. The vet took him back to examine him and returned saying he was not bloating. She told me he was in pain from a previous back surgery and assured me he would feel better after the pain meds kicked in. When I got him home, he was worse, so I called the vet and said I really think he's bloating. Again, she said I was wrong. Fifteen minutes later, he collapsed. I ran to my neighbor's house and asked her to help me get him into the car. He screamed for about 20 minutes on the way back to the hospital and he died minutes before I got there. He was so bloated, and distorted, it was devastating. My poor dog deserved a gentle passing, and thanks to a misdiagnosis, he died a dreadful death. I can't tell you how horrific that night was. I called the office the next day, and there was no apology, nothing except them saying I couldn't prove he was bloating when I first went to the hospital that night.
Wonderful, understanding and attentive staff. When my darling 4-year old kitty was critically ill and in a lot of pain, I was searching for a 24-hour clinic to end her suffering. I called in advance to let them know I was bringing my girl in, and as soon as I walked in the door they took me into a room and tended to me immediately. Since she could tell I was deeply upset by my cat's entire situation, Dr. Leslie Wolff looked through my girl's case, expressed that she could operate, but reassured me that she thought I was making the right decision. The vet, nurses and staff were kind and gentle and let me spend as much time with my girl as I needed. God forbid I have to go through this again, I know exactly where I'll go. Highly recommended.
I had to bring my Labrador of 12 yrs in because she suddenly fell incredibly ill. Preliminary analysis revealed she had cancer and had to be euthanized that evening. Despite how my wife and I grieved so, the veterinarian and technicians were fantastic in every possible way in how they handled the situation. Highly recommended.
Was not even able to see anyone. I assumed - being an emergency vet that you did not have to call ahead or make an apmnt - just as when you go to the emergency room as a human - you do not call ahead. I came in at midnight with my cat who was apparently in pain upon urinating - bladder infection - not sure. It was a friday night. Her regular vet would not be open again until Monday. I went there - not knowing that you are to call first. There was another couple there - their animal being seen. They were talking to this couple for about 20 or more mins then just left the room w/o saying a word to me. They did not come back after another 10 mins. We left after about 35 mins of no one speaking to us. At some point in time - it seems someone could ask if I had called - if that is what they require a phone call before coming- speak - say something - when you see someone there waiting for over half an hour. They have no idea how serious it might be. - or just say - I'll be with you in a minute or hiss or something. I left and when I got home called and ask am I suppose to call first? She said yes - why - what is the problem. I told her I had been waiting there and no one spoke. I am certainly not going to take her back there after that. I'll find a vet open in the morning (sat) hopefully that can take her.
