Took my 4.5 year old dog in for vomiting and poor appetite. Had not eaten any food in 4 days. Other than a presenting a little weak, my dog was a little playful meaning he would come up and greet you & was interested in other dogs. Dr. Jaffe recommended bloodwork and keeping him over night. We agreed. The next morning at 10am I called to check on my dog and wanted to visit him. Was told the Dr. would check on him and call me back. I called back at noon and still had no answer but was told by the staff that my dog was more energetic and seemed a little better. Finally received a call back at 5pm from Dr. Jaffe. Was told his levels had improved and his energy level was increasing but he was still not eating. This did not make sense to me so I went to check on my dog and took his favorite comfort food, some cooked ground beef, with the hopes of getting my dog to eat. I got there at 6pm and at first glance of him, I thought my poor dog was going to die in a few hours!!! He looked like a limp noodle. His eyes were red and lifeless and he could hardly use his rear legs to stand up. I held him and could feel his heart rate was faint and rapid. After holding him for 30 minutes, I thought this is probably not helping him that much so I asked the tech to hook him back up to his IV. I asked if I could give him his bed and toys but I mainly wanted to see where he was spending the night. The conditions were deplorable. I wanted to be as close to him as possible while we waited for the tech, so I climbed down into the cage with him. The cage doors were covered in a vomit/food slurry that made ME want to vomit! I'm pretty sure morgues and slaughter houses are more organized and sanitary. When Dr. Jaffe finally came in, I told him I think my dogs dying. He recommended more blood work and lets check on him in the morning. I asked who will be monitoring my dog overnight and was told that everyone leaves at 7pm, and then they return at 6:30am. In other words, no one! I felt my dog would have been dead by then. I asked if he cold recommend an emergency room. Dr. Jaffe left the room to have someone call an emergency room for us and I never heard from him after that. We were charged $850 for 30 hours of care and a bunch of blood work for a dog that is now in near death condition- far, far worse than when I brought him in. To make matters worse, I was told to take him to the emergency room that night and then to return him to Dr. Jaffe's care the next day. And also, because of the Christmas holiday, I would have had to pick him up early from Dr. Jaffe and then take him back to the emergency room if they still had not seen any improvement. Unreal. I rushed him over to an emergency vet. Within minutes of talking to the Dr., I felt like they had a grasp of my dogs problems. They recommended a course of action & I agreed. My options were pretty slim at that point. The next morning at 7am we were called by the Emergency Vet with the diagnosis. My dogs Adrenal glands had failed (Addison's disease) and he needs a pill every day and a shot once a month for the rest of his life. Otherwise, he should hopefully live a long and normal life with Addison's. I went to visit him. His energy level had increased and he had eaten a little. The Emergency Vet Dr. commented he was very happy and playful with the staff. I thanked our Emergency Vet for saving my dogs life. I can completely understand if someone doesn't have all the answers. Dr. Jaffe in my opinion should have said look, your dog is not doing well and we can't help him so take him somewhere else. I would have respected his honesty and might have continued to go there. We will not be returning there.

The care for your animals at Montgomery Animal Hospital is absolutely unparalleled. I have never in my entire life encountered a group of people that care about animal welfare more. They all do rescue and charity work on the side, and their lives are about helping animals. They are hands down the best people I have ever seen in the area. Dr Jaffe is amazing, and will tell you the truth, and will explain everything you need to understand, and answer all of your questions, without talking down to you or being dismissive. I have been bringing our family dogs to him since He got out of vet school.

I've had a rather good experience with "Montgomery Animal" until today. I've seen a few good reviews about Dr. Jaffe, and finally I've got a personal acquaintance. If you want to be grossly over-charged - this is your guy!!! My cat had a fever, and I agreed that Jaffe checks cat's scratch, does the blood test and gives it an antibiotic shot. Well, he probably used the words "bloodwork", but never specified what it includes, so I assumed it's a blood test. I was really shocked when they charged me $427!!! And it was my mistake not to dispute charges right there. I called them back from home after I examined the bill and found three charges totaling about $150 which I didn't authorize (including electrolytes!). I talked to an assisting technician twice - he had to check with Jaffe and called me back. I have nothing against technician - he is a good and honest guy who got in a difficult position because Jaffe didn't tell him the truth, and by the way, Jaffe didn't come to talk to me over the phone! I ended up with a sweet-voice manager, who sweetly declined to take off those unauthorized charges. Well Jaffe - you've got your $150, but today you've lost much more. I will never come back. And dear pet owners: when it happens to be Jaffe - ask for the bill estimate BEFORE he "treats" your wallet.

We wish we could go there for our own health visits - they only take care of pets though. ;)

I am usually not the type of person to leave such a negative review, but after yesterday's experience, I want to make sure no one has to discover the negatives for themselves. My fiancé and I just moved to Rockville from the Baltimore area. We brought our cat, Ollie, to the vet because he was pulling out chunks of fur. He had the same issue before, and our old vet was able to see him and treated the issue properly. He began pulling at his tail now, exposing dry skin and bumps in certain areas. We wanted to get him diagnosed and treated, whether it was fungal, viral, or otherwise. We had the tech look him over for a few moments, and then we were left in the small, dirty exam room for 30 minutes waiting for the doctor. When she finally came in, she barely looked at our cat. She just talked about things it might be. The best answer she could come up with was that it was behavioral, even though there was no indication of anything that would be stressing him in any way. Just as we were wrapping up, Ollie was on the counters and got to the back corner near the sink. I see him batting something around, and it is the cover from a needle. Apparently they can't throw those away properly. There were at least 5 that I pick up to prevent Ollie from getting into. However, the last one I reached for turned out to be an ACTUAL USED NEEDLE. Seriously, a USED, EXPOSED needle, lying out on the counter for any animal to touch. God knows what was in that needle. I pulled it out and glared at the doctor, waiting for an explanation. She acted like she didn't care. She literally said, "Oh, that's a needle. It's not supposed to be there. She didn't offer any explanation or express any concern that my cat had essentially been sitting on and walking over the needle for 15 minutes. Can they not just put the needle in the HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL that is ON THE SAME COUNTER? My fiancé and I were livid and ready to go. We get ready to pay the bill, which comes to $75!! We used to pay $40 for an actual clean, nice office, with nice, attentive staff and doctors who are actually competent! The only issue is it's in Baltimore, but now, I am thinking that we will just suck it up and make the drive. The bill actually included a $5 waste disposal fee! Apparently they are charging every customer $5 to toss used needles on counter tops. We didn't want to take it out on the front desk workers, since they didn't place the used needle there, and it is not their fault the doctor couldn't help our cat. However, please, use another vet. This office does not deserve anyone's business, not in its current state.
