After trying out many vets where I live in Kalamazoo with no positive results I make the drive out to Allegan for Dr. Mains knowledge and experience and the very reasonable prices are a huge bonus. Dr. Main knows what he is doing and he is so easy to trust. Other vets do not have near the experience and knowledge and they are such salesman for products. Dr. Main is no nonsense and he gets the job done and done right with out pushing unnecessary things on you. His customer service has also been amazing whether its during office hours or for an emergency type situation after hours. You don't come across places like this anymore. Dr. Main is obviously in it for the animal and not just your money. So refreshing. I would recommend allegan animal clinic to everyone.

I hate writing this because we really like Dr Main and he has done a great job with my dogs so far but two weeks ago I took my male in to get him neutered. He was given bordatella nasally and still got kennel cough. I realize that the injection isn't instant even though the front desk attendant said that it should was. I would have taken him back up there to allow them to rectify the situation but they were telling everyone to stay off the roads as they were drifted shut and icy. I called them as a courtesy and hoping they would offer something, even an apology, but when I told them what happened and that I had to pay extra vet fees they didn't even offer an apology. I've been in customer service all my life and when you make a mistake or something like this happens you offer some empathy or apology or something other than a thank you. I have three other dogs, two of which have developed kennel cough and are on antibiotics. After this experience with their front desk, I can't say that I will be taking them up there again. Still like Dr Main but very unimpressed with the lack of caring customer service from the front desk.

Dr. Main and Dr. VanDenBrink are both excellent Vets. I have had many cats and dogs and even a horse that all have been treated numerous times over the past 20 years by both of these Veterinarians. Both have been very professional and thorough. From taking care of our horse with a twisted intestine to cropping and docking my boxer to euthanising my dogs and cats once they each had medical problems that they could not have come back from (stroke, etc..). We have even taken our animals in for kenneling and have always come away happy. Some have said on this forum that they have seen Doc Main be a little short with them or not interested. I have seen Doc Main in this tired state a couple of times over the years, but also remember that these vets also take care of farm calls and they rotate 24 hour schedules. It's not an excuse, but you try working 24 hours and keep a smile on your face sometime. Also, I some have said they didn't like the holistic medicine. I have had both docs use the same medicine that chiropractors use and it has worked every time. I could have had them just drug my dogs and wait, but I'm one who would like to see my pet without pain as soon as possible. Lastly, I would like to commend the staff. They have always put my pets first.

Really tired of Dr. Main's "woo-woo" magic approach of examining animals and dog "chiropractic". "Laying on of hands" in a quasi religious manner is to me, not an example of applied medical science. Not the first time he's done this either. The doctor has no problem charging full fees for this "technique" which perhaps, if I rubbed his head reverently, I could charge the same fee back. Main looks like he could use a miraculous healing. Dr. Jason seems to have his act together, just feel like I've bought a gallon of snake oil whenever I run into "Mr. Wizard" instead of Dr. Jason. Need to find a new vet...bad. Hope Dr. Jason gets out of there soon, he's a good guy, hate to see him go down with the "magic doctor".

I have had my dog's ears cropped there before and that experience was fine, recently I had a new puppy's ear's cropped, actually two pups. We asked for a specific short length. The ears on one of the pups was done correctly and one was cut way too long. Initially the staff and doctor's explained that the ears would heal and as the head grew it would look different (never addressing that we asked for a certain crop and didn't get it). The Dr never apologized, in fact both doctors explained that it was the proper length until I brought the pup back and Dr Main admitted the ears were too long. So we brought the pup back and he had to have his ears re-cropped. Now Allegan is out of the way for us and we drove up there six times with these two pups, never an apology in fact I had to push back a bit to get the ears redone as both Dr.'s were defensive. I expected a credit or a refund to continue going there. Nothing offered. So I will advise people going there to be very specific and understand that the Dr is going to do what he thinks is best. This is not problematic if the crop you want is longer, it is if it is a shorter crop. I recommend going to Ohio for laser cropping. Yes it is a drive, but you only go once. It is unfortunate because Dr Main is so skilled, but his attitude wasn't the greatest and that is why overall I have to review the clinic as unsatisfactory. Laser cropping is much cheaper and worth a few more hours' drive.
