If you love your pet and value it's quality of life, find another vet. When I first started visiting Blackman Animal Clinic they were a good place to take your pet. Now, not so much. For years I took my cat there, yearly visits without fail. He has always had stinky breath and they said there wasn't anything they could do for it. I finally became frustrated and took him to another vet, and as it turns out, my cat has had gingivitis and infected teeth to the point where I am having to pay over $700 in dental work, but also he has probably been in pain as a result of his teeth for years. YEARS. And Blackman said there was nothing they could do. Think twice before taking your animal here. And if you still want to take your animal there, think a third, fourth, and however many times until you decide to go elsewhere.
This is one of my favorite places to take my four legged kids, they are very sweet, kind, and caring!
I took my four-month old kitten to Blackman after she suffered a concussion and seizure that had happened on a Saturday morning. She was very lethargic and not able to keep food down, so I took her to Blackman first thing Monday morning. The doctor assured me my cat would be ok, but gave her a shot to minimize brain swelling and also an anti-vomiting/nausea shot. Because she was not able to keep liquids down, they also gave her subcutaneous fluids. The vet told me my cat should stop regain her appetite within the next 4-6 hours. I took my cat home, but 6 hours later, my poor kitten had already vomited twice on an empty stomach and her appetite was still not back. Panicking, I called Blackman again only to have the receptionist tell me it might take up to 24 hours for the anti-vomiting medication to work and to wait and see how she was the next day. My baby passed away the next morning at 5 am before I could even take her into the vet again. She vomited three times that evening and was barely able to move after I got her home from the vet. She worsened after receiving the medications they gave her, and I found myself wishing I had never even taken her to the vet afterward. I never felt satisfied that Blackman did everything they could to save my cat. I felt we were just another appointment and did not feel welcomed or reassured by the staff or the vet. Considering it was my first time there, they did nothing to form a relationship with me or my cat. It was a very cold experience and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone.
my dog was a recent patient of blackman animal clinic. she died at 5 am. of 2-3-2013 the quality of care given to her was good. however, the fact that they did not inform me of her death i find very wrong. i had to call them to find out, which i find ever more disrespectful. something of this kind of importance. should never be over looked. you are not just treating an animal. that animal is a part of a persons family. this small oversight, brings a very callous feel to your clinic. i was told i would be given updates if she was getting better or worse. i had to call them instead to get this information. my review may seam bias. but, with all fairness my review has nothing to do with the quality of care provided to my dog. rather, my review is on their way of dealing with their clients.i don't think any one should have to call to find out that their pet is dead. it only takes five seconds to make that phone call. this company had 3 hours to make it. however in the end it was i who had to call them.
I had gone to another vet in town for years. One night my dog got out of the backyard and was hit by a car. When I called the G..... office they told my to take my dog to an all-night animal hospital in Ann Arbor of to MSU. My dog was in shock and pain and they wanted me to go on a road trip!!! My neighbor called Blackman Animal Clinic (she used them) and they told me to bring her on in (it was after midnight). They gave her great care and treated her for shock and pain immediately. I'll never go back- Blackman is great!!
