The practice of the doctors at this office are very unprofessional, avoid communicating directly to the owner of the pet, and seem to hide what's really happening in the back of the office. My first red flag was when they did not want to draw blood in the room while I was there. They insisted on taking my dog to the back. I allowed them to do this - and what a HUGE mistake that was. Let me just say that I have a german shepherd mix who is the sweetest and most gentle dog with everyone, including children! They muzzled and tortured my dog in the back of the office and neglected to tell me about it. I only found out months later when I requested a copy of my vet records (where it had been noted in fine print). I realize a german shepherd may seem like a scary breed to work with - but as a vet you are resonpible for letting the owner of a pet know everything that is done with their dog, there should be no secrets! My shepherd has a history of abuse and muzzling him only brings up back memories for him - he would have been fine if he was in the room with me. WARNING TO PET OWNERS: Always fight for your pet's rights - they cannot speak for themself!
My Posh was a tough case. Totally blind and over treated for Cushings. His crisis was on Christmas Eve. After we took him to Kalamazoo Animal Hospital we were very impressed with the diagnostics and the professionalism and ease and comfort of using the facility. They pulled Posh thru and kept his resulting Addison's balanced from there on. I have recommended them to any friend who needs a second opinion, they are excellent.
I love this veterinary hospital! They genuinely care about their patients, and are very knowledgeable. They get along great with all my pets - even those that have been "challenging" to take to the vet in the past. They can easily refer you to the emergency and 24 hour care center owned by the same people if you are in need of urgent or 24 hour care. They discuss all your options with you, and are always up front about charges. I have very high standards when it comes to my babies. I have one pet now in need of intensive care for a chronic condition, one elderly pet who is challenged by a variety of age related concerns, as well as other pets who are in their prime. I have been very pleased with the care that all of my pets with their varying levels of necessary care have received. My healthy pets are never required to have anything that isn't really needed, and my less healthy pets are offered all the latest care available! The staff is always willing and able to accommodate my requests. I highly recommend them for all your veterinary needs!
Spot is my first pet that I get to take care of ALL BY MYSELF! I adopted him from the SPCA and was advised that I needed to take him in for a wellness check "just in case." I didn't know where to go and after searching the world wide web, I stumbled upon the Kalamazoo Animal Hospital. Not only did someone respond to my email full of questions within 24 hours, but they were able to schedule an appointment on very short notice. Spot and my's first visit was so great! Everyone, including the other visitors, were so sweet, patient and helpful. Our veterinarian answered all of my questions thoroughly and made sure I felt comfortable. Thank you so much, I will ALWAYS go to KAH!
The Kalamazoo Animal Hospital has been my vet for almost two decades now. They were faithfully attentive and sensitive whenever i had a reason to bring my cat in. When Min got acute kidney failure from the Iams pet food recall, they didn't give up, but rather worked with me and saved her life, and worked with me through all the nuances of treatment and diet over the years so that we had many long years together before her decline in old age. When she passed, they sent me the most beautiful bouquet and a card signed with special messages by all of their staff. I cannot tell you how important it is to have a vet with heart. Now I have a new baby, (Niko the kitty) and I wouldn't think of taking him anywhere else. Dr. Kautzer is amazing. Thank you for being there for us all these years, KAH. You mean the world to us!
