The doctors seem knowledgable but on several occasions I have waited for 45 minutes to an hour when I had an appointment. They also rarely talked through treatment options with me and would just hand me a medication before asking if that's the route I wanted to go. I've gone in to try to find the REASON why my dog was itching and got a 'bandaid' treatment instead of a vet who would work with me to solve the problem. Made the decision to switch vets to the exotics vet I take my ferret to, where they NEVER go ahead with a treatment without asking me if I feel comfortable with it and always lay out my options and make sure I feel involved.
I feel they do a great job! I have been taking my pets for the past 3 years and they are very efficient and compassionate to my pets. I regularly have our older poodle's teeth cleaned and afterward they look like new pearl whites. You can pay less at other places, but it's first come first serve and the waiting times are excessive. My time is worth the difference.
I have gone into Miller twice and I don't think I will go there again. Somehow they always talk me into getting more tests and more medications even when I say no. Last time I brought in my dog because he had fleas and was experiencing some hair loss. They talked me into getting heart worm medication and flee medication and then cornered me into getting a test for my dog to see if he had heart worm so that he can safely start the treatment with the newest top of the line product available to keep him healthy. I drew the line finally when they were suggesting I give him steroids to alleviate the irritation caused from fleas. So long and short, I went in to Miller cause my dog had fleas and I came out with a $198 bill. The time before, they agreed to see my dog for a first time free check up after I got him from the pound and basically forced me to buy dewormer though the humaine society told me that they had given him dewormer. So they weighted him and talked with me for 15 minutes and basically charged me $40 for dewormer which I did not give him because I do not believe in giving my animals drugs for no practical reason. In addition to over-prescribing treatments, their service is neither timely nor what I understand as in the best interest of my pets. On average they have made every appointment that I have seen the vet on average 10-15 minutes at most into an hour long appointment composed of my time being wasted as I wait for someone to do anything. I don't know if this is normal for vets. I went to a vet back home once who after taking our dog in for symptoms that seemed awful (bloody diarrhea) and in return I was told to change the diet of my dog and amazingly he got better. I can't imagine Miller ever giving me advise like that. It is a shame I did not look on google maps earlier to see what other people had to say about them. It seems that other people had similar experiences.
I just moved to Lansing and got a puppy at the Capital Area Humane Society. Through a friend, I heard about the Miller Animal Clinic, so I decided to take my dog there for her wellness exam (that they did for free). Dr. Baciak was so nice, and answered all my (numerous) questions, since I am a first time dog owner. The facility was clean, the staff was kind and every time I call with questions I am always provided thorough answers. I'd recommend this vet to anyone in the Lansing area. They're great!
