We had a puppy with a emergency situation on the weekend and needed a vet as soon as possible. (the puppy had swallowed a twig that was stuck sideways on it's way out along with a prolapsed rectum) When I called and explained the situation, how urgent the matter was, they told me that they would not see the puppy because we were not existing clients. I explained that we lived less than a mile from the office, and that the puppy was in horrible pain, but they refused to help in any way stating that was policy. I understand that they have policies in place and it is better to have the pets history, etc. but I would think they would be more concerned about the health of an animal vs. implementing a policy. Obviously that was not the case. We had called our vet of many years at the same time trying to find the quickest treatment possible. Our vet called back as we were on the phone with Northwoods and he said he would meet us at his office (but it's 20 miles from our house). Our vet (hint hint - He's an Incredible Dr) took great care of our puppy and we were on our way home in no time, no surgery needed. He truly cares about the animals and loves his job. I would look for a vet who cares more about the animals than they do policies or money in their pocket. I would not recommend Northwoods.
I have been using Elyssa for grooming for many years! She is awesome with making sure my dog is always comfortable! I will always ask for her!!! I love how she puts bows in my dogs hair and sometimes paints her toes!!! Love her
Saw some bad reviews on here and just to balance things out I thought I'd review as well. Northwoods has always taken good care of our pets and have been easy to work with. We have a newer breed of cat that has had numerous health complications and Northwoods has been a saving grace every time. I would definitely recommend this location.
Excellent care - they truly care about our dog. Always pleasant, clean facility.
When we lived in Mt. Pleasant we took our dog here once or twice for heartworm check up and once to be groomed. The grooming was terrible. For no reason whatsoever the groomer decided it would be a great idea to shave off my dog's long beautiful eyelashes. One year later and they are less than 1/4 inch long. We weren't allowed back in the grooming area and the dog cried the whole time. Probably because she didn't want her *$&%ing eyelashes cut off. NEVER AGAIN. On to the veterinary service. The staff seems fairly disinterested from the moment you walk in the door. The last visit we were the only people there and everyone's attitude seemed to be geared towards getting me out as quickly as possible. No small talk, no interest in my dog. None of the staff seemed interested in addressing concerns I had about my dog. I had to remind them a second time of my question while they were trying to hurry me out of the examination room. Doc came back in, answered quickly and got out of there. We've since moved out of the area and changed vets and the difference is astounding. Everyone is very friendly and eager to answer our questions. Our new vet is very friendly and our dog seems to love her. I'm guessing that the good reviews for Northwoods Pet Care Center are probably employees/friends posting on their behalf.
