This clinic is good in an emergency that happens after hours. My dog was treated promptly and the staff was caring and attentive. However expect to pay triple what you'd pay at your ordinary vet. Also, staff didn't tell me all the information about the medication they gave me and scared me half to death by making me think my dog had a lifelong condition. Overall, if your pet has an emergency, definitely get it treated as fast as possible. Just make sure to visit your regular vet after to receive ALL the information.

I expected the standard after hours Emergency Fee for my sick dog. I did not expect the rest of the bill to be a mafia extortionist shakedown. The Eden Prairie AEVS 24 hour emergency vet clinic has rates double and often triple what you will find with most vets outside the metro area. Their prices are outrageous. They are triple "human" hospital ER visits! You have no choice or your pet will suffer and die. Literally, you have 12-24 hours to have a pet treated for most internal conditions or it will die. I brought my dog in at 10pm on a weekday. The vet took it in the back, came back and told me blood was coming out as possible result of urinary tract infection. An hour later, got a call at home telling me it was diagnosed as "hemorrhagic gastroenteritis" a.k.a. bloody diarrhea. I already knew that. Here is a breakdown of the bill which covered a 12 hour period... Emergency Exam: $118.00 Chem 17: $130.00 Electrolytes: $67.00 Complete Blood Count: $65.00 Hospitalization: $48.00 Nursing Care: $34.00 Infusion Pump/Hour: $44.00 IV Catheterization: $71.00 Plasmalyte A 1L: $41.00 Blood Pressure Monitoring: $26.00 Metronidazole Inj 5mg/ml (1st): $21.00 Metronidazole Inj 5mg/ml (2nd): $21.00 Praziquantal inj per ml: $30.00 PCV (packed cell volume): $31.00 Famotidine 10mg/ml Inj: $21.00 Some of this is double dipping!!! Also charging a lot for 1 minute worth of labor. I went to pick up my dog because they said if I waited until after 10AM (dropped off 12 hours prior) they would charge me at least $350 more! Total B.S. While waiting for my dog, I asked about this assumed demand that I complete medical treatment with my local vet. I stood there and asked THREE TIMES... What does my vet need to do to this dog? They pointed to a replacement hydration bag. Dog was disconnected at the time. I asked about the medicine injections and if my local vet needed to do more. No response. She pointed at the fluid bag. They refused to answer my questions. No explanation of what was performed and what was needed... even though they INSISTED I take my dog for further treatment because I didn't want to pay the Eden Prairie Affiliated Emergency Vet Services $350 babysitting charge. You know what's funny? They asked for down payment prior to treatment. That down payment was 95% of this bill. Let's face it. Almost every vet in the twin cities metro area is a mafia extortionist. They charge rates which doctors practicing on humans can't even fathom. Check out the "Minute Clinics" and compare their rates for people! We definitely need more vets for more competition. Lower rates means more business and referrals. They make more money, duh! But that doesn't exist in the vet industry. This has to change. Walmart can offer the same vet meds for 1/10th the cost. I would love to see Walmart open up their own vet clinics. Final note. I did find a dirt cheap vet recommended by my niece. Kimball MN Veterinary Clinic. Straight down hwy 55 passed Buffalo MN. Their other office is just a couple minutes down from them in Watkins MN. They get a lot of business. Place was packed. Someone from Lake Elmo brought their dog there! The woman said the hundreds she saved that day made it infinitely worth the drive. They get very booked, but I got in to have the catheter removed from my dog and the bill was a few bucks. Got in an overall exam too. Happy with that service so far, but who knows. I'm also going to look into Pet Health Insurance to see if that is legit and viable.

Our experiences at this vet have been great - have been there with 3 greyhounds for various events, with our GH and cat after they got into it, and tonight I called regarding a possible poison ingestion - my dog chewed up a peach pit, ingesting some of it. They gave me great advice over the phone, and saved me a trip in.

I was hoping this will post with ZERO stars, but I am required to put one to be able to post. We raced to the Emergency Vet last evening with our 9 yr old Golden Retriever. She had experienced a sudden onset of right side weakness and staggering. Her right eye went closed and it was as if she could not see out of either eye. After filling out the paperwork it took the staff 35 minutes to enter the info into their computer. We waited yet another 20 minutes before they put us in a room where they checked her temp and B/P and then left us to rot. We were there for over 2 hrs and were never seen. We were told upon arrival that the Dr would see us soon as they were going to see all current patients and the go into surgery and not taking anymore incoming patients.???????????????? Isn't that what they are there for? Emergencies? Isn't surgery a likely thing to happen? One surgery shuts them down? Well after asking several times at the front desk if we were going to be seen and being told "sweetie, we are doing the best we can" we decided to take out dog home. They had no intentions of seeing us in the near future and we sat there for over 2 hrs waiting. Avoid this place at all cost if you care about your pet.

I just returned from my 2nd trip to AEVS, happily with a corgi whose stomach is now free of a chunk of bone! After a day of exciting bone-gnawing, he suddenly started vomiting in early evening; and when he started moaning and whining, I knew something was pretty wrong. (He never seemed to notice when an entire toenail was pulled out at the park this summer, so I know his pain threshold is high!) The vet tech examined him gently, kindly and thoroughly; the vet palpated his abdomen etc., then recommended x-ray to see if a bone bit was lodged within, and sure enough, there was a chunk in his stomach. They induced more vomiting, and out it came! Hopefully that's the end of it-- two hours later, he's almost back to normal. Cost of xray, exam, vomit-inducing, and sub-cutaneous fluids: $430. That doesn't seem out of line to me-- as someone else said, it's an emergency room! I didn't have to wait, it's clean as a whistle, and everyone's polite and kind. They send you away with a detailed diagnosis on paper, along with follow-up instructions, which they give you aloud as well. Our other visit: over the summer, both our dogs got into something late at night (probably an insect nest of some kind) that made both their faces swell horribly in the space of a few minutes. We were pretty freaked out, and after looking up stuff on the web, and giving them some children's Robitussin, gave up and ran them over there at 2 a.m.! Excellent, intelligent vet gave them both steroids (after a thorough exam) which brought the swelling down visibly within an hour. They gave us a cut-rate, as it was two corgis came in with the same problem, at the same time! I was pleasantly surprised to get a follow-up call from the clinic. Really a completely satisfactory experience. It's great to know that you can go right over to a reliable place in the middle of the night if necessary. It would be nice it it were free, but that's what I think about human health care, and that's not going to happen too soon, either. ;-) Actually, I wish I could just have my own health care at AEVS-- they spent more time with my dogs than some doctors have spent with me!
