We boarded our dog at Shoal Creek Animal Lodge over Labor Day weekend. We dropped off a happy, energetic and healthy 2 year old French bulldog. We picked up a dog paralyzed and in pain. They carried him out to my husband saying that when they tried to take him for his morning walk his legs wouldn't work. No one knows what happened to him or when. No one bothered to call us or take him to the animal hospital attached to the facility where he is an established patient. They also did not provide us with his normal logs at the time of pick up that show when he was cared for. With spinal injuries immediate action is imperative which we have no idea when it occurred. We called them and demanded he be seen and that someone be responsible for this. They saw him and did a quick exam and said French bulldogs are prone to spine problems and that they are not responsible. "It just so happened he had an incident while he was there, it could have happened at any time." They sent him home with prednisone and muscle relaxers and no pain medication. They did not do an xray. How can they make the assumption that he was predisposed to spinal problems without doing any diagnostic testing and no history of any health issues including spine problems. They did not give us instruction on how to express his bladder seeing that paralyzed dogs can’t pass urine on their own or even mention this to us. They did not tell us how to care for him at all or support his spine. They told us "Feel free to get a second opinion." This is all from the facility that had always treated him. They were so busy not claiming responsibility that they did not provide adequate care or concern. Once he was home he was in so much pain that he flopped around like he was having a seizure. Most likely this made it even worse. This could have been avoided if they provided us with pain medication and instruction on how to care for him. They have never once called to check on him and see how he is doing. However, they did call later that day to tell us that they wouldn’t bill us for the visit but we have a balance on our account for the medication. Since having him home we have found that he has a loose front bottom tooth, a 1 inch laceration on the back of his head, and two puncture marks on the right side of his neck/shoulder area. It makes me sick to not know what happened to him. We have no idea if he will ever improve and we don't have the money for surgery and all the extensive treatment he may require. I am disgusted at the lack of care and concern for what happened to him while he was there. I will never know if it truly was a malformation that caused the paralysis or trauma. How can you pay for your pet to be safe and taken care of and they have no responsibility if the animal becomes injured while in their care. My family is traumatized. They proved to be the exact opposite of their mission statement. I pray no one else has to endure what we are going through.
Worst experience EVER!!! If you love your animal you will NEVER step foot in this place!!! We boarded our dog for 7 days and had a dental cleaning on him. They got our dog confused with another dog (not even scheduled for a dental) they did a FULL dental cleaning including Anesthesia on the wrong dog (that didn't have any pre blood work or anything), called me and told me the dog needed some work (I gave consent to proceed because I thought it was MY DOG) Meanwhile, the actually owner of the dog receiving the dental comes into to pick up her dog & the dog is nowhere to be found?????? That was the only way the vet staff figured out they had the WRONG DOG!! The clinic calls to notify me of the mix up, and the lack of sincerity & respect for my dog and me was ridiculous!!!!! They simply reacted like it was no big deal---- and that my dog would still receive the dental work the following day.......WHAT!!!!!! It was SLOPPY and totally created a sense of distrust in the Hospital & Kennel. After, coming back from vacation I called the Hospital manager Crystal & she still acted like this issue was No BIG DEAL. The vet that did the processor & owner has NEVER called to reach out to me after requesting it SEVERAL times. All she kept saying was "I'm sorry you feel that way". Not a single person has tried to smooth the situation over or tried to restore trust & confidence back in them as an organization--How about a SORRY!!!!!! This business did NOTHING but take my $754.00 and they will NEVER see us again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please please please be mindful of this horrific situation and go ANYWHERE but this place for your animal needs. Can you imagine if they would have mixed up euthanasia!!!!!
