I have been going to Jewell Animal Hospital for the past few years. Dr. Smith is amazing. I have been to other vets over the years in Missouri and in other states. She is by FAR the most outstanding Vet I have ever used. She is knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate and will go above and beyond to make sure your pet has the best care. I even know of people in the Vet industry call her for her expertise and knowledge. If you are in St. Louis or moving to the area give Jewell Animal Hospital a try.
If I could give the 0 stars I would. Went to adopt a puppy. It came out fresh washed, but there was still a bit poop stuck to it. It was acting funny and had liquid poop while I was with it alone. I cleaned it up and when the lady at the front desk came to talk to me she stated, "one of the litter mates had Parvo, but he is being medicated and had no contact." she left. I googled Parvo right then and there and found out how serious it was. And that one of the symptoms is liquid poop, with a distinct odor. When the "Vet" came in she practically threw the adoption papers at me and made sure that I understood that all the "financial care" from here on out is my responsibility and told me to pay the lady at the front. When I questioned her about parvo she said "It's nothing to worry about, it's everywhere, all dogs have it." When I questioned further she started talking LOUDER. (Which doesn't mean I'm going to believe what you're saying any more, just because you're talking LOUDLY.) Also, there was a older man next door who was getting his dog put down :( the walls were thin and I could them. So, I knew he could hear us. It felt so inappropriate for him to hear her, while going through such a thing! She kept saying that this dog was fine, when I asked her to test the liquid poop that was in the trash she blatantly refused. She is trying to push these sick dogs off on unsuspecting people, who probably would go to her for treatment!!! A very long and expensive treatment! If you get a dog/puppy from her make sure it gets tested for Parvo, it is such a serious disease and once a place has it, it is very hard to get rid of.
We had a lab for 10 years that past away the weekend before Christmas and our hearts were broken.....We wanted to get another dog that our 6 month old daughter could grow up with just like my wife and I did as kids so we decided to rescue a puppy from Jewell Animal Hospital in St. Louis from Dr. Judy. We drove 2 and a half hours and we picked out our new puppy Moo (Who is spotted just like a cow : ) From start to Finish Dr. Judy went above and beyond our expectations in explaining what to look out for in our new puppy's early life especially since the entire nature of what she does there is rescue animals (from all across the country that need a home and may other wise die or be euthanized with out people like her non profit organization) no matter where they come from and there are possibilities they may have health issues because of that very reason. She is truly a professional and the Best Veterinarian that we have ever been to. My wife and I discussed several times now after having Moo for the last month how much we wished she was local to our home. She went out of her way during the adoption, in setting up the insurance and microchip information for Moo, and during the last month answer any questions that we have called her about. I am not usually one that does online reviews, however I have read a 1 or 2 bad reviews that all most made me shy away from going here and didn't want that to happen to anyone else....I would have to believe these people are the type that no matter what you do for them, they are never happy. Dr. Judy has a real passion that shine's through, and she really cares about what she does there. Rest Assured, Go here and Adopt one of Dr. Judy's wonderful little rescue's and there is no doubt you will have a wonderful experience!!!!!! Thank You for our Moo!!
DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS HOSPITAL! I recently adopted from this hospital and my puppy was infested with worms and PARVO! How does a vet give a sick dog away?? My vet knew this dog was seriously sick after just looking at him! It takes a couple days for Parvo symptoms to show and my puppy wasn't home for 2 days when he started throwing up and having blood in his stool therefore he came across this virus while in their care! The vet willingly told me she had 12 dogs she adopted out that had Parvo where 6 of those dogs died. Lucky for her my dog received the proper care and is doing great! However, I do not want anyone else to have to go through this and am warning people not to go there for anything her hospital is unsanitary. Neutering was apart of the adoption fee but better believe I will not be going back there and would rather pay another fee to get my dog neutered and taken care of! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE!
Dr. Smith and her staff are excellent!! They are very friendly and compasionate! Dr. Smith goes out of her way to make sure every pet that comes into her office is treated just as well as she would treat her own pets! She worked with me financially which most vets do not do!! I also love the fact that Dr. Smith and her staff work twice as hard and also run a non-profit rescue out of their office! They do good work to try and help the pet over-population here in MO! They do a lot of rescue work over at the Jefferson County Animal Control..where they have saved many animals who were at risk of being euthanized!! I agree with the last post..people only post when they have had a bad experience..not when they have had a GREAT one!! Thanks Dr.Smith & Staff..keep up the GREAT WORK
