The last name is ONLY a coincidence! I've entrusted my pets' care to Dr. McGrath since the 80s and followed him to Cedar Lake when it first opened. I've always found him thorough, thoughtful, and caring for my many dogs and cats over the years; he also shows concern how the owners are affected by their pet's situation.
I originally booked an appointment with Cedar Lake Pet Hospital for my dog to get a check up exam because she is due for her Heartguard medicine soon. My husband and I just moved to the area and this is where my parents take their dogs so that is how we ended up at this particular vet.... On the morning of our visit, I realized that my dog had some ticks on her so I wanted to get the vet to look into that issue also. When I first walked into the clinic the receptionist was nice and told me all about the things that the "doctor" was going to go over with me. For example, he will talk to me about a vaccine that my dog might need, he will go over a new type of Comfortis that might protect my dog from fleas and ticks, and he will look over my dog and remove any ticks that she has right now... NONE of these things happened when I took my dog into the exam room. First of all, I have to STRESS that I did not get to speak with the actual veterinarian the ENTIRE time that I was in the office. Dr. Greg McGrath never even stuck his head in the door to say hi and this was the first time that I had ever even been to this vet.... One of the girls that works in the office talked to me in the exam room about my dog's ticks and that was the entire exam. No one even touched my dog the entire time that I was in that office. No one offered to take the ticks off of her either! I was told "Yeah, you are going to need to get those off of her." Really? At one point the girl stepped out into the hallway and spoke with the doctor (I could hear her). She was asking him about what she should tell me and how we should handle the situation. Why couldn't the doctor come in and see me??? I have no clue... When I was leaving, the girl was telling me about a foam/spray that I needed to spray all over my entire house to kill all of the ticks. When I started asking her detailed questions about the substance (ex: how long do I keep my dog away from the sprayed area? is this a spray or a foam?) she had no answers for me. She actually took the bottle and started reading more about it. Wow... (By the way, I sprayed this stuff on a dog bed and after 5 hours of letting it air out, it feels like I put oil all over her bed and it smells terrible.)... Needless to say, I will never go back to this vet. My total bill was $177 (exam, medicine, tick killer, Heartguard) and I NEVER EVEN SAW A REAL DOCTOR.
