I have been visiting this practice since 1997 and have never been disappointed with the service I have received at Allenstown Animal Hospital. And believe me, I am not a creature of habit. I have owned dogs and cats continuously for 40 years and have gone through a fair number of vets trying to get the best care for my furry friends (whom I consider family members). The veterinary staff at Allenstown Animal Hospital is knowledgeable, accommodating, and really seem to understand that they are treating the pet, and in a way, the pet owner when the pair come into their office. There’s a warmth and familiarity in their greeting that makes you feel at ease from the time you walk in the door. I get the feeling from every single member of the staff that these people really do love animals. The office and examination rooms are very clean and orderly but are also lightly decorated with artwork and pictures so as not to appear cold and strictly clinical. I have German Shepherds who are home bodies so when they go out they’re not real personable. As a result, when I take them to the vet they can be obnoxious. Thank Heaven for the folks at Allenstown Animal Hospital. They are really patient with my dogs and have a remarkable knack for gently, but firmly, getting my dogs to do what is needed. Thanks to their patience and expertise, a lot of good health tips, and some awesome repair work (I had a pup who ate a sponge, a dog who ripped his paw pad open, one with degenerative hips, and another who was temporarily paralyzed due to a spinal disorder!) my pets and I have been helped through some bumpy times to enjoy long happy lives together. One other very special thing about them is the way they carry through with the understanding and support right up to the time when you have to do the one thing that every pet owner dreads. Our pets never live as long as we wish they would and no matter what they are going through we never really want to let them go when the time comes to end their pain. The folks at AAH are professionally honest with their diagnoses but genuinely compassionate in the way they help you to bring yourself to do what has to be done. Their humanity has helped me through the passing of some good old buddies.

I moved into the area and needed a vet. I noticed this place on the way to work and liked the look so I made appointments and brought my dogs in for their yearly check ups. The girls at the front desk were very nice and loved my dogs. Spoiled them with treats and took pictures. The doctor and technician were great, very good with my pups, put them at ease and were very gentle. It was suggested that I do some blood work on the older one since he was now considered a senior, which I did and I'm so glad I did. If I had not done so I would have never known he was a diabetic! He had no outward signs. I was pretty upset but the doctor and staff made me feel better and gave me all the info I would need to get him going with insulin. Since then the staff have been very patient with all my questions and worries. I would recommend Allenstown Animal Hospital to anyone ( and actually have already :). The prices are reasonable and as a bonus new people get a discount on their first regular check up, which was an awesome surprise. They are the best!! Thank you Allenstown Animal Hospital!! I brought my dog here after recently moving to the area. It is extremely close and thought it would be very convenient. However, when we arrived for a routine checkup/rabies vaccination, they brought us into a room and then the tech came in and took my dog into another room. I asked why I could not go with her and they gave me some lame excuse about not letting people back where they do the shots. I have been to a few different vets. and never have I not been allowed to go with her anywhere, especially when she was going to get a shot. I thought this was weird but let it go as it was my first time there. A little while later, they brought her out and we went up front to pay. That was when they informed me that the total came to over $300!!! I asked why it cost so much and they said that they had run tests and given her the heartworm shot as well as the rabies. These were services that I did not ask for nor want. Something I would have said if I had been allowed to be with her. When I said this to the receptionist I was given extreme attitude about why wouldn't I want my pet to be protected against heartworm? Excuse me? 1. I didn't ask for it 2. The heartworm shot is only 50% effective IF they catch heartworm and is just an excuse for Vets to rack up the bill on you. 3. Where do you get off questioning me like that? I reluctantly paid the bill even though I shouldn't have. But, needless to say, I will never be bringing my pets to this place again. I could walk to this place if I wanted to, but I would rather make the 15-20 min drive to the Suncook River Veterinary Clinic in Epsom where both my pets and myself are treated with respect. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!

I came here because they were the only clinic in the area that said they could help me out and treat my kitten. As soon as I got in there, the "doctor" came in and said right away (without looking at her) we have to put her down. I argued with her and she then told me if I didn't put her down she would send the aspca and police to my house to remove the animal. Turns out, as I thought, my kitten was not sick and would have lived a healthy life. Glad she was short lived due to a lack of knowledge and feelings. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! Also, my dog was having a severe bloody nose, as I live in town, I called them. They said sorry we close in 10 minutes, we cannot help you. Sorry. They did not refer us to the emergency vet or anything. I'm so glad they care for animals. Why bother being a vet?

HORRIBLE!! I was referred to them and wondered who would possibly take their animals there!!! The vet did not introduce herself )the heavy set one turns out she is Dr Moran I believe), ignored my puppy and spoke to her clipboard. I was there with a 9 month American Bulldog to discuss neutering and dew claw removal. The staff said 'wow, hes rambunctious.' The first time they said it I laughed it off. The 5th or 6th time they said (in the same) visit, it was to the point of insulting. Of course, hes rambunctious. HES 9 MONTHS OLD FOR GODS sake! The vet would turn her body away from him when he came near her and she never spoke to him only touched him when she needed to - to check his ears, etc. I overlooked these mannerisms as I felt it was necessary to move forward with the neutering and on the morning of the surgery met with Dr Watkins. She spent approximately 5 minutes with me and told me she did not recommend the dew claw removal. I asked her to go ahead and proceed with my request and I was fully aware of my decisions. When I picked him later that day the tech told me to keep the bandages on his leg clean and dry so I asked for advice on how to do so in the snow and mud and she shrugged but said if he needed a bandage changed bring him back they would do it free fo charge. 4 days later I took him back for a bandage change and was told it was $17.00. Long story short, the communication I got was poor and minimal. The puppy was ignored as he is 'rambunctious'. I spoke with the manager/owner and he interrupted every sentence I was saying. This added to my frustration. I DO NOT recommend taking any animals you care about to this place!
