Visiting the vet with a sick pet can be an emotional time for any responsible owner. My story is no different. Unfortunately posting this review will not result in a better outcome for my particular pets, but I sincerely hope it helps others in my position understand that their pet deserves better than Highlands Veterinary Hospital in Sparta, NJ. This is the first negative review I have ever posted to Google or anywhere else for that matter, and trust me I have tried to bottle it up. Please understand what I am about to write is almost impossible to sugarcoat although I have tried to do so here. The mission statement for Highlands Veterinary Hospital should be: "When in doubt, euthanize." At this depressing facility I have now had to suffer through our beloved Siamese Cat and Siberian Husky falling innocent victim to this Sparta, NJ version of “The Jungle.” Most recently they "treated" our Siberian Husky because she was developing an itchy rash. It was clearly mange (scabies) but instead of prescribing oral Ivermectin or Permethrin cream; Highlands prescribed euthanasia for a dog that continued to eat and drink like a puppy while showing a strong will to live. Mind you, this dog had already been rescued four years ago from a Highlands Veterinary Hospital death sentence by a kismet second opinion that determined the "tumors" on her liver were not painful cancerous growths as opined by Highlands Veterinary Hospital (of course requiring euthanasia), but rather a reaction to a medication that Highlands Veterinary Hospital was prescribing. Mange was anecdotally confirmed when the younger dog in our household developed identical symptoms and was subsequently properly diagnosed. Anyway, the life story of our beloved family dog ends with mange that was left completely untreated as her caretakers ignorantly hemmed and hawed (myself included), until euthanasia became a self-fulfilling diagnosis. I'm sorry Comet. I love you.
