My two Cairn terriers have been patients at Northtown Animal Hospital for over 8 years. We have had the best care and attention for all of our pet's health issues. My 14 year old Cairn has especially benefited from Dr. Schaedler's expertise in geriatric medicine. She is well versed in all areas of canine health and treats her patients compassionately. We are so appreciative of her attention to care! The staff is friendly and thorough. I would recommend this vet to anyone!
Dr. Schaedler & Dr. Wolf are great! They really care about you and your animals. I have experienced that most vets will rush you out of the room so they can get to the next person. Both vets here at this office will answer every question and go through every possible scenario, which is very comforting when you need to make a not so fun decision regarding your pets health. They really listen to you and want what is best for you and your pet. To top it off the facility is very clean and the staff is always pleasant, especially Holly! She is always so pleasant on the phone!
I've given this practice its fare share of chances but I'm done with them once and for all. I've been going there off and on since before they moved into the new building. I'm sure the people giving this practice good reviews have never actually taken a sick animal here. They failed miserably at treating my diabetic cat, who has since passed away at 6 years of age. I did end up taking him to another vet but it was too late at that point. I brought an Iguana there that was suffering from metabolic bone disease and was told to feed him dog food, which fixed the MBD but caused kidney failure. This was confirmed by necropsy performed at RARE. Most recently I needed a referral to take my dog to Veterinary Dermatology Services of WNY. I brought him in twice for his skin issues and he was put on antibiotics, steroids and an antibacterial shampoo both times, totaling over $700.00. Both times his skin issues came right back as soon as the meds ran out. They refuse to write a referral unless I bring him back in so I can pay them more money for them to tell me something we both already know. I had him in there for his skin less than 6 months ago. This practice is more of a cash grab business based on treating symptoms rather than causes to ensure repeat business. Dr. Schaedler actually told me on my second visit for my dog's skin, "This is the fun part, the trial and error". Really!? Who is having fun? Certainly not my dog, my family, or my wallet. Dr. Schaedler, you are the only one having fun. I'll take my pets and money to Brighton Eggert, Seneca Animal Hospital, or the emergency vet before I ever consider going back here.
I had high hopes for Northtown Animal Hospital but ended up very disappointed. In October 2012 I took my dog there for a booster shot for the leptospirosis vaccination. At the cashier I was charged $39 for an "exam - recheck" in addition to $20 for the booster shot. I was never informed that this service would be performed on my dog nor did I authorize it. I was surprised and shocked to find this additional charge on my bill. A "reminder" postcard sent to me prior to the appointment lists a booster shot for the leptospirosis vaccination as the only recommended service. It says nothing about an exam or recheck. In fact, I had just spent $60 for an exam less than a month earlier during our initial visit. I feel that I was misled and taken advantage of by this business. I contacted a comparable veterinarian and was told this particular vaccination booster shot does not require an exam by the veterinarian. In fact, it is administered by a veterinarian technician for $18. It should also be noted that the veterinarian only spent about 10 minutes doing the exam after making me wait in the exam room for more than an hour. The vet has a cold and unfriendly demeanor. I do not feel this warrants a $39 charge. In the days following the appointment I spoke to the business in question and they refused to refund my $39. The vet said I had "ample opportunity" to inquire about relevant financial charges. Is it not the provider's duty to properly inform her clients about billable services before they are conducted? Should the client automatically assume there is some "hidden" charge with every office visit? That is a ridiculous assertion on her part. She also said, "For the sake of efficient service, we do not routinely advise clients of small fees prior to an outpatient appointment." How hard is it and how much time does it take to mention that there will be a billable exam during the visit? Indeed, I take that line as an admission on her part that I was not properly informed. I have consulted many family and friends with pets who say their veterinarians are always upfront about services and costs before they are performed. This business needs to better inform its customers about what services they are providing and billing for. It is using unscrupulous billing practices and I advise everyone to stay away. The previous review is also correct that they are heavy-handed in trying to sell you expensive products and services. I am transferring my pet's care to a different veterinary office. Stay away!
Dr. Schaedler and her team are wonderful. I own a pet sitting and dog walking business as well as a dog rescue. We take all of our rescues to her as well as some of our own pets. I also refer clients to her. She is very knowledgeable and excellent with the animals. She is caring and never to we feel pressured for any services we feel we don't need. I highly recommend Northtowns Animal Hospital.
