Dr. Ober takes care of our two cats and two dogs. The care is thorough and comprehensive. He can xray onsite and get blood results back expediantly. Yes he talks fast and can be confusing, but he knows what he's doing and his prices are well worth the trip. One of my cats nearly died in 2008 and because of Dr. Ober she is still with us! Yes the office is in an old house and yes it can smell like any other vet office in certain days. We wouldn't take our pets anywhere else and have always recommended him!

I called for an emergency visit and was welcomed right in I appreciated Dr. Ober's down to earth *real* advice and care he gave my precious cat. My background is in breeding and showing and I know a good, dedicated vet when I come across one, so Dr. Ober will be my vet from now on. I saw that I could trust him for an honest assessment and treatment plan.

Also in a pinch, my husband and I went to Candor Animal Care because of its convenient location. We were VERY unhappy with the experience we had with Dr. Ober. Pets are a part of the family….and when a part of my family is sick, my heart breaks until I know she/he is ok. Dr. Ober has zero sympathy for any of this. He is way too matter-of-fact in my opinion. Not to mention, his facilities are extremely dirty. He talks about a mile a minute in veterinary medical terms the average person would never understand, he acts annoyed and always in a hurry. When I called him yesterday to let him know how my cat was doing after being released from his care 4 days ago (he wasn't improving as much as I had hoped), he didn’t remember who I was….he didn’t remember who my cat was….he didn’t remember what he did with my cat until after I told him. He said it was because he “resets his brain over the weekend….so he doesn’t remember last week.” His only advice was to add $30.00 MORE to our already huge bill with him and get my cat 5 more days of antibiotics. We will definitely NEVER be back.

Dr. John Ober has got to be the most dedicated, caring vet in the entire southern Tier. i wonder if those who are leaving negative feedback are aware that he charges less than half what other vets do for the same service? Or that, when you call after hours, you will never get an answering machine. You will get his PERSONAL CELL PHONE. He doesn't have the fancy, air conditioned offices that many other vets have. He doesn't have the very latest in wildly expensive equipment. What he does have is passion. He loves animals and he values their lives. He is a vet who understands when your best friend has come to the end of their life. He is the vet who, even though he already had a full waiting room, told me to bring my cat in this morning for an emergency surgery to remove a kitten that had become lodged in her birth canal. He is the vet I watched literally RUN from one patient to the next. You know what? If you walk in there expecting to be treated like a princess and have your hand patted, you're not going to be happy with the service. He's not professional in that he's not going to sugarcoat things for you and say there there while patting your head and telling you what you want to hear. He's going to be real with you. He's going to tell you this is what's wrong with Fluffy or Spot, and these are your options. These are the costs and this is the probable outcome. And when you decide on a course of action, he's going to do his level best to take good, compassionate care of your pet. He's sat on the floor with 7 pups jumping all over him like idiots, giving each one their vaccines without batting an eye. He's neutered my dear Charlie, who's insanely nervous around anyone else. When my cat clawed at him, he said she "has good self respect" and laughed. If you want a vet who will care more for your comfort than your animals, go ahead and pay 3x as much at one of the "town" vets. If you want a vet who will give his all and then some for your pet, and who cares about their well being, go to Dr. Ober. Maybe he's a little abrasive, but watch him with your cat or dog, how gentle he is, and you'll see the real Dr. Ober. Suck it up, buttercup, and do what's right for your pets instead of worrying about fancy presentation and a friendly manner.

Dr Ober and staff offer amazing care and compassion and expertise on short notice, emergencies, and routine care. He is straightforward, nonjudgemental, and keeps his prices as low as possible. If his office and bedside manner are more important to you than his expertise and care, go someplace else. There are plenty of doctors around here who will rip you off and dazzle you with the latest and greatest bells and whistles but I will stick with Dr Ober and his kind staff as long as he's available.
