This is the most amazing animal hospital I have ever dealt with. Based on diagnosis from another vet, I took my 13 year old cat in to Metzger for renal disease treatment. Concerned about her breathing, the vet ordered xrays that instead revealed massive cancer. Every member of the staff was sympathetic, compassionate and did everything they could to make her, and my family, comfortable at such a terrible time. I would recommend anyone take their pets here. They will be in good hands. Thank you, Metzger staff.
On a beautiful pre-autumn Sunday, our 13 year old schnauzer mix, Frosty, suddenly began urinating blood. I called Metzger Animal Hospital's answering service. Within 15 minutes, the veterinarian on duty called me back. We discussed Frosty's symptoms and decided that she should probably be seen immediately. I drove the thirty-odd miles from Huntingdon to State College with a heavy heart. The staff at Metzger Animal Hospital could not have been any more empathetic. The vet listened attentively to my concerns and took Frosty immediately back for an ultrasound. The ultrasound confirmed our worst suspicions, but, to be thorough, they ran a blood test. The doctor gave me Frosty's diagnosis and her prognosis. He completely explained my options and helped me choose the best option for Frosty and our family. Even though the outcome was not what we wanted, the staff at Metzger Animal Hospital was incredibly empathetic and sympathetic to our needs. If I lived closer, I would definitely choose MAH for my pet's needs.
We went to Metzger Animal Hospital for the first time under unfortunate circumstances. Our dog was very ill (approximately 24 hours from death if there had been no interventions) and Dr. Koshko quickly identified the issue and gave us our options for treatment. Not only do they have everything they need right there for a quick diagnosis, but Dr. Koshko was also very knowledgeable about our dog's disease and we had a lot of confidence in him. The techs were extremely kind and understanding. They allowed us to visit our dog and take him outside and they allowed me to leave a pillow and an article of clothing with him while he stayed overnight at their facility. They also set us up in a private room while he had a blood transfusion and stayed with us the whole time. My dog was seriously ill and my husband and I were in serious need of help, competence, understanding and kindness, and that is what we got at Metzger. Because of them, this terrible experience went as well as it could have, and our dog is still alive and well today. I recommend them to anyone who cares about their pet. You are in good hands with Metzger!
Metzgers is a phenomenal vet facility with doctors who really are about their patients and can translate complex medical issues to clients with great compassion and care. I had worked for a vet tech (in Boston) for many years (had to relocate to PSU) and from my background in the industry, I can say that they are really top notch. Their facility has cutting edge technology (sophisticated lab, MRI, ultrasound, rehab center, 24-hour supervised care) and the vets are invested in continuing education and client education. My dogs have had annual exams and dentals with Dr. Griffiths, who is absolutely fantastic, engaging, down to earth, and knowledgeable. I also can not say enough positive things about Dr. Rider. He saved my dog's life. My dog severely broke his leg in a hiking accident and Dr. Rider (cool, calm, & collected as always) was able to stabilize him and salvage the leg so that it could be saved (this was during off time emergency hours). He was extremely empathetic and encouraging through the whole ordeal and FOUR months of being in a fixator (and the rehab that followed). After having his leg broken at about at least a half dozen different places, today my dog is playing, running, and jumping again (something I never thought possible at the time of the accident). Dr. Rider has a gift with animals (and goes out of his way to help their people too). The technicians have always been fantastic, the place is spotless, the new rehab center is amazing. The prices are very reasonable for the services provided and I love that they NEVER try to oversell you anything. Metzgers is the cream of the crop.
