First off, anyone going into veterinary medicine should have a love of animals and compassion for their owners. Penn Animal Hospital seems to be somewhat lacking on both fronts. From rude staff...that have become jaded about both animals and people...to doctors that are simply much more interested in the bottom line than patient care, this practice is less than ideal. I recognize that a vet practice is a business...much the same as a family practice. But, they are not selling "widgets" and inasmuch, they should recognize that this type of business is not simply based on how much profit they can squeeze out of their clients. There are many other veterinarians in the area that do a far better job with patient care as well as taking care of the people that walk through their door.
I have been going to Penn Animal Hospital for a good number of years with my different animals and I have to say whether it was to put 1 down or for treatment, the staff has been wonderful. Dr. Beck is so kind and gentle with my animals-after all, they are just like family. I always am able to get an appointment when I needed one and there is always a follow up call the next day to see how my "babies" are doing.
I don't know the circumstances for those 2 outdated negative reviews but I've been a regular patient at Penn for 16 years + and I have NEVER found any of the receptionists to be rude or curt! While their personalities differ, the 2 primary ones are/were great, organized and knowledgable. As for the staff, they have been nothing short of friendly, kind and loving to ALL my pets who have ever been patients. Debbie Beck Ross, primary vet and owner, has consistently been thorough, thoughtful and on top of things. She knows when to refer and has always been fair. They have a pharmacy right next door and have always been quite accommodating.
We have a rescue pet with some issues. He's a sweet boy and he just shakes when he has to go to the vet. EVERYONE in that office from the receptionist to the techs, to the vets have been fantastic with him. The offices are clean, appts. run on time, and getting your prescriptions couldn't be easier. We would recommend this office to anyone!!!
I recently returned to Penn Animal as a client after several years of going to another vet whose high-tech facility and hours had attracted me, but whose consistently mounting costs finally drove me away. I wish I'd never left Penn Animal. Both Doctors Beck and Bendokas are experienced, knowledgeable, down-to-earth and compassionate. They, and their staff, have been flexible and accommodating of my difficult schedule, recently going out of their way to schedule a visit with my 11 year-old cat, Bugsy, who was suffering from a persistent upper respiratory infection. I have complete confidence in their ability to deliver excellent care, and am grateful to have them so close at hand.
