These guys are pretty darned amazing. My dog cut open his leg and needed staples. Not only did they get me in right away on a busy Saturday, they were as nice and as fast as possible and they charged me MUCH less than other places had quoted. Love this place!
Our Old English Bulldog, Sage, became ill very quickly and needed immediate attention. My wife called Avery Ranch Animal Hospital and they got us in the same day as a side appointment. Dr. Skupin’s examination came back as pyometra and the bacteria was making Sage vomit and not eat. Dr. Skupin provided the operation that she needed and Sage is recovering well and back to her energetic self. I can't thank the Dr. Skupin and his staff enough for their sincere care for Sage. I would give them 6 stars if I could! Thank You!
I called in for my kitten who was lethargic, coughing, stumbling and had an obvious high fever. We were terrified and when I called in for him, the receptionist was very impersonal. She took my name, his name, his species and gave me a time. Since he is my brother's girlfriend's cat who we keep, me, my brother, his girlfriend, and my friend who drove us all showed up to the appointment. We walked in with him meowing and whining loudly and were exactly on time since we live only about 5 minutes from the clinic. But since I made the appointment and had the check, I waited at the desk to check in. The woman at the desk was facing away from us on the phone so I figured she was with a patient and waited. Someone else came out (vet assistant?) was on another phone and left so I thought they must be busy so I'll wait. Ten minutes into us being there we got worried, it was over 90 degrees outside and our friends car does not have A/C and our kitten was already running a high fever and the ice pack he had in his kennel was melted. So we tried to ask the woman at the desk if they had anything we could cool him down with while we waited. She did not even look up. We asked again, nothing. So we took the blankets out of his carrier so he could lay on the cool plastic and my friend left to use the restroom and grab some damp paper towels. I was still standing at the desk. When he came out 5 minutes later he walked around to her side and said "EXCUSE ME, we have an appointment?" Only then did she spin around and see us. She wrote down my name, sent us into a room and it took another ten minutes for someone to come in and weigh our kitten, ask why we were there and leave. They took him into another room to weigh him and took almost another ten before he was returned to us to wait another ten or more. It should not take ten minutes to weigh a kitten. And if it does, maybe they should be weighed in the same room as their people. He was splayed out on the cold floor and panting when the vet came in. He did an exam and decided fluids were needed and some other tests. We agreed and let them be done. He came up with the feline equivalent of parvo. He would need to be on meds morning and night for two weeks. But the vet wanted him to be kept in the office for the first week. At $100+ a night and meds and 'prescription' food, we could not do it. So we agreed to IV fluids, medication and the food. We waited outside for him to get his fluids and he was handed back to us kindly. We were given his medication and were about to leave when we realized we were not given his food. We were charged $40 for 4 cans of high cal cat food. My friend asked the girl as she was going back in about the food and she said "oh yeah! Sorry, we've been busy, sorry" and came back out with the food. Which, btw, is basic purina kitten wet food that can be bought for 59 cents a can at petsmart. Overall, I was VERY unhappy with the care my kitten got. The vet seemed to know what he was doing and seemed very knowledgeable and concerned for my kittens health, But the people at the desk were too much. My kittens fever was so high that he needed IV fluids and we waited almost 30 minutes before we DEMANDED to see a vet, even though we were exactly on time. Not to mention his food was forgotten and we were not told that the food was a simple kitten food you can by at any pet store. Any vet that has the care of the animal in mind will let you know if the food your pet needs can be bought at a petstore and not add the food for a ridiculous price to your vet bill. I won't be coming back to this clinic. I've already found a clinic in round rock that cares about my animals, not about profits. I feel bad knowing the vet seemed to care. It's his desk staff and assistant vets that really ruined it for me. I'd love to have a vet like him close by. Just, not if I have to wait 20 minutes while she she talks on the phone, does paperwork, forgets what I paid for or charges me 30% more for store brand food.
