My Vet's Practice has become one of those Incorporated Animal Hospitals. Not to any fault of Hers, but it sorta lost its "edge". So after 13 yrs, My Dachshunds and I, decided to look around for a New Vet. I raise Dachshunds. One of my Pet Parents recommended I talk to Her Vet. I went along on a Wellness Exam, just to check things out. Needless to say, I was VERY impressed. I think I'm an excellent judgement of character. Infact, I have turned down Families that has shown interest in one of My Doxies, after meeting them face to face. I'm very Selective on My Pet Parents, I'm even more so on their Care. In the 30 minute visit, Dr Sandel (hope I spelled her name correctly) displayed every attribute I was looking for in Our New Vet, and then some. I'm not going to bore you with All 100 of them but Dr Sandel batted a 1000! I'm looking forward to our many visits to Her Clinic. Although, I hope I never really Need Dr Sandel, I'll just feel comfortable knowing I can Trust Her. I do also want to make a comment, I have 2 little Boxes on my Mantel at home, the cost to have them cremated was almost double what Hill Country Quoted, so again, Kuddos to Hill Country. I am sorry for your Loss. In time, you will know you did the right thing, focus on the Good Times you shared with your Kitty. Peace, <'( );=====;~

My mini schnauzer Rasta has been seeing Dr. Sandell at Hill Country Veterinary Hospital for over 3 years. Their staff is very caring and upbeat. They all know Rasta by name and give us a lot of personal attention. I find they are reasonably priced, and the treatment has nearly always exceeded my expectations. I also respect that they seem to be finding ways to improve their office. I dread the day when I have to experience loss like the stories written below. I hope your reviews have emphasized the importance of compassion, and I hope my experience will be different.

I called this vet on a very emotional day for me - I had decided to put my beloved Siamese cat to sleep as he was very ill and I wanted to stop his pain. I called to ask their fees and the gentleman (Juan) was very helpful, but I realized later, not completely forthcoming. I was told the fee would be $60 for cremation and $40 for an "office visit" because my cat had not been there before. Juan told me the doctor will cut the $40 fee in half if the exam shows the cat is very ill. So I went in believing my bill would be $100, or less, with my heart breaking in two because it was too soon to let my boy go. The front desk person was not nice at all, but the other staff that weighed my cat and gave him his shot to help him sleep were very kind. However, when the time to pay came, I was stunned to get a bill for $180 - especially when no exam at all was done - not even the cursory look. I was charged $40 for the office visit (expected if examed, but no exam was done), $38 for euthanasia (not disclosed), $60 for the cremation ( expected) and $42 for sedation (not expected). Of course I paid it as I was crying my heart out, but the anger that has set in since prompted me to write this review. Over charging grieving pet owners is not right. A friend of mine went to the Humane Society recently to put her pet to sleep and was treated better by them, with a much more reasonable fee applied.
