I took my cat to this place recently to get her vaccinations. Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was that it smelled like it had been recently cleaned. The support staff was friendly and I was able to get in to see the vet relatively quickly. They took some basic information, weighed my cat, and then proceeded to vaccinate her. I was worried that this might be a more traumatic experience for my cat but it was a quick process, and they handled her with care. Dr. Burns is incredibly knowledgeable, she has a great sense of humor, and she answered all of my questions in a very direct manner. She gives you all the facts up front and informs you of what may go wrong. Some people may be put off by this but I appreciated her direct scientific approach. I will be coming back to this office in the future, and I would most certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for a more affordable service.
I have been taking my pets and my daughters pets to Dr. Burns for the last 6 years. She is knowledgeable and experienced. She is interested in my pets welfare, whether dog or cat, and has handled even one cat that was half wild, taking care of it from kitten-hood to its death two years ago at 16. I drive an hour each way to see her, and feel it is worth it. The time spent driving would be spent waiting in the office to see another vet. She is outspoken, but I understand exactly what she is saying. Her prices are also more reasonable, and she does not order as many expensive tests as other vets. She is both practical and humane in her treatment of elderly animals on their last legs.
She is not afraid of most animals or bad with them like people claim. Maybe, as an elderly woman, she is afraid of a very large aggressive dog that could overpower her. That is understandable. However, she was great with a feral kitten I brought her. Me and my girlfriend found him starving to death in my back yard. I am not exaggerating when I tell you he was emaciated and dying. He also had a broken leg and was partially blind. HOWEVER, that does not mean he was not willing to fight to the death, and let me tell you, a 2 month old feral cat can mince your finger to where it would require amputation if it felt really threatened. Despite this, Dr. Burns handled the feral kitten with her bare hands and gave him a dewormer, ran a test for Coccidia. prescribed anti Coccidia medication (I can't remember the name), an IV drip, took his temperature, and put a cast on his broken leg. All of these procedures were cheap. She then sold us prescription cat food, which I kind of regret buying due to the cost. Due to being ignorant, I bought the cat food, and it did work; the kitten gained mass VERY fast and he was able to see within a day. His leg also healed and he is a very healthy and large cat now. She expertly treated this feral kitten in as little as 15 minutes; there were no problems at all and the overall cost was around $135 cash, with the majority of that cost being the prescription cat food. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, try to find very high calorie and high nutrient wet cat food somewhere else for a lower price. Overall, I highly recommend her. She is fast, efficient, knows her stuff, and doesn't mind answering veterinary health questions. Just remember, she does not accept debit or credit cards - only cash. That is my only complaint. Also, I wouldn't exactly describe her as friendly, but she wasn't mean or rude; however, if you don't bring cash and bring a a bad attitude or dangerous animal (or animal she perceives could be dangerous or unruly), that might encourage her to be.
My husband I and have been using Dr. Burns since she started her practice many years ago when Beltway 8 was little less than a 2 lane road. She is the best vet and even though we've moved and use another vet, when the going gets tough we make the drive to see Dr. Burns. The other thing we love about the office is that there is practically no waiting time and though I doubt she does it any longer, but she used to pick up animals that had been hit and it was so comical and heartwarming to see dogs and cats that had rollers for legs. Whoever writes a bad review for this office does not know them as well as they should before giving them a bad review.
I hate this place. the only nice person was the receptionist. from the moment I walked into the exam room was hell. the vet tech kept on telling me to not let my dog get close to her. they doctor kept on telling her employees to make sure my dog didn't get close to her dogs or to go to the back. When seen by the vet she didn't even touched my dog. they told me to put the muzzle on because according to them my dog had issues and was too aggressive. the doctor has no love for animals, and they are just RUDE. all they kept on telling me was that my husky seemed like he was too aggressive and that I should be careful with him, because he would even try to bite me. after that I took my dog to his regular vet in Austin (since that's were I live) and they treated him great. they put the muzzle on him and checked his ears, since he had an ear infection, they trim his nails and at no moment was my dog aggressive. THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A LARGE DOG AND A DOG WHO IS AFRAID OF THE VET. THEY ARE RUDE AND SHOULD NOT BE WORKING AS A VET OR A VET TECH BECAUSE IT IS REALLY OBVIOUS THEY DO NOT LIKE DOGS AND HATE THEIR JOB.
