I have had nothing but positive experiences at the Humane Society. I personally have adopted two cats here. Yes, waiting to be seen at clinic can be exhausting but the prices are reasonable. I've brought in many strays and fully understand that these animals may not be adopted but I couldn't sleep at night thinking that I should have done something. You need to look at the big picture. These animals could be killed on the street or by other animals, starved, abused or worse. As far as poop on the floor, the wait, no return phone calls, etc. Is that really important?

Dr. Harkness and his staff are the very best in the world! this clinic is a WONDERFUL resource, and using their services brings a little bit of money in--although i doubt it brings much. they do a lot of things for free (abandoned/rescued animals), they spay/neuter American Terrier breeds like "Pit Bulls" for free to combat all of the idiots who are behind the rampant, unqualified and ignorant forced breeding as well as all of the fucktards who throw dogs away by abandoning them to roam the streets in packs. i would recommend a WHOLE NEW ANSWERING SYSTEM for their phones--the messages that run either when closed or open are NOT VERY HELPFUL, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEIR WEBSITE IS DOWN (like right now)--the message happily informs one that "ALL INFORMATION IS ON OUR WEBSITE" and basically tells you very little else of use. it also NEVER LETS YOU SPEAK WITH A HUMAN, which is CRAZY, because i have seen those chubby women answering the phone. i wonder with whom they are speaking? the ONLY REASON i am not adding myself to to "following" is because i hate social media, and killed my profile in here a while ago.

If I could I would leave zero stars. After going with a friend to adopt a german shepherd being told she was adoptable & no rescue could pull her, being approved. Suddenly phone calls & voicemails were not being returned. Being told there was an application problem, several phone calls, voicemails & personal visits, we were told the dog was deemed shy & shy german shepherds can become aggressive. So she was being deemed unadoptable & would be going to a breed specific rescue but were told they could not tell us which one. This place is more of a headache than a root canal. If you are looking to adopt look elsewhere, the politics behind HHS would put Washington D.C. to shame. No one truly seems to know what is going on, what their own policies are, or how to be helpful except the volunteers & allison.

Okay first off: I would have given them five stars but my kitten did get fleas when we took her in to be fixed. Not necessarily their fault, more of the fault of other pet owners for not properly taking car of their animals. REGARDING SHOTS: I've taken my kitten her for her entire first round of shots. It simply cant be beat. Her shots were about 45 a visit but that included the cost of the shots, waste removal, deworming treatment, and office visit itself. They even have a full year rabies shot for 10 dollars. Yes there is a wait for your pet to be seen as many people are always their with their various pets, but once your pet is taken back they get their shots and are back in your arms in no time! Each time my kitten was handled lovingly and acted as if nothing at all had happened to her. REGARDING MICROCHIPPING: Microchipping is only $25 dollars plus the office visit cost. This is a simple investment in your pets safety. You never know what could happen. Its administered similar to a shot. REGARDING SPAYING: I placed my information online and was called promptly the next day. The lady was willing to get me in the next day for spaying but i explained i was waiting for her rabies shot which she was going in for the following week. She helped me schedule it for a week afterword giving her time to recover and even put on a little extra weight. Took my 30 dollar deposit and strict instructions to follow the day before surgery and bam! It was all set. A lot of people complain about the deposit but you have to understand it is only to make sure you actually show up for the spaying. It is a huge waste of their resources for you to schedule a spay and not show up the day of. So they just want some insurance to recoop their losses if you dont. The day of i showed up early and dropped my baby off and received the pick up time. When i picked her up they gave me her pain meds and gave me a rundown of how her surgery went. They had also clipped her nails and tattooed her (to inform other shelters or animal control shes been fixed if she gets out). Once we got home she was a little sore but with in two hours she was back to normal. I love this place. It is life saver and the service is always great. Like i said i would have given 5 stars but my kitten did get flies on her last trip.

We visited the Houston Humane Society today for the first time since we adopted two dogs from there twelve years ago. We were very impressed with the upgraded facilities and the general cleanliness of the facility and the effort being made to prevent the spread of bacteria. Twelve years ago we adopted a puppy and he came down with Parvo less than 72 hours after we brought him home. We took him to an animal emergency hospital and he survived. In fact, it was because of his recent passing at age 12 1/2 that we decided to get another dog. It's obvious that HHS has taken steps to prevent that kind of thing. The staff and volunteers were very courteous and helpful as we looked at four dogs and finally decided on a puppy that we are looking forward to bringing in to our home.
