I have used Jester Plaza Vet for almost 9 years for all three of my dogs. I have a lot of experience with Dr. Burda and trust him completely with my animals. Ronald was (is) in declining health and based on his symptoms I feared that he would have some combination of congestive heart failure (constant labored breathing), arthritis (slow to get up and down), Cushing's Disease (potbellied appearance, labored breathing), or an abdominal tumor. Dr. Burda selected the blood work that needed to be done, and I gave him prior authorization to do chest X-rays and begin treatment if he thought that the treatment would add to the quality of Ronald's life. The blood work ruled out kidney and liver problems. The urinalysis indicated that Ronald has a urinary tracy infection, which is being treated with an antibiotic. The X-rays showed that there are no tumors (thank goodness) but that his right ventricle is slightly enlarged. He determined that it was not too abnormal for a dog in his age range/physical condition though. Congestive Heart Failure was determined to be unlikely. Because Ronald was being boarded for the week, the doctor was able to observe his eating/drinking patterns. Based on this, he ruled out Cushing's Disease since most dogs with Cushing's drink bowls upon bowls of water. The X-rays did determine that Ronald has fairly severe arthritis in his spinal column. The doctor prescribed 2 weeks of an anti-inflammatory medication and after only 3 days you can already see a little more "pep" in Ronald's step. I will continue the medication to see if it relieves his pain. Dr. Burda also recommended an over-the-counter glucosamine supplement which I will begin ASAP. When I picked Ronald up the doctor went over all test results thoroughly and explained his diagnosis step-by-step. I really appreciate that about Dr. Burda (and Dr. Dees too!). I like to board Ronald at Jester Plaza for a couple of reasons. First, if something goes wrong health-wise , he's already at the vet. But I also like the fact that the dogs have an outdoor play area during the day, AND get to mingle with the doggie day care attendees until closing time. Dr. Burda's fees are not cheap, but I don't think they are expensive either. You get what you pay for. I've been to vets that are cheaper and gotten lesser quality service. I've been to vets that are more expensive, and found out that I was paying for their location (West U. / Southampton area) more than their service. Overall I am happy with what Dr. Burda charges, and on occasions when I have questions about certain charges they always explain what they are and why they are important (or sometimes NOT important). Dr. Burda always gives a written estimate of all work to be performed and lets you sign off on it BEFORE anything is done. No surprises.
Super nice staff, very caring. My dogs left from being boarded and getting their annuals healthy and happy. I personally think the prices are reasonable, especially coming from Dallas where all the Vets seem to overcharge, overcharge, overcharge. I've never had a wait or a bad experience. I am very picky with Vets and was very happy with this place.
This was a really great clinic. Everyone was nice, very caring, and the price was very reasonable. I would trust them to take good care of my pets!
My dog seems worn out from his stay. He was just chilling in front when we picked him up. He wasn't locked up or stressed out! Only complaint is they charge for a night if you can't pick up by 10 am. I don't think that is right. He stayed 4 days and 3 nights. Should be like a hotels. But I looked at 610 pet lodge and polka dot dog and both were dirty And smelly and the dogs seemed stressed. When I did my surprise tour of jester it was clean and all the dogs seemed very happy. So I'll pay extra for that!
Great place. They treat our "kids" like they are their own. One of our three dogs is a rescue that they took in. Thanks for Oliver -- he's added so much to our home!
