DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! If I could give no stars I would. One of my dog's has already died due to their negligence. Now they have sentenced my other dog to die from cancer because they misdiagnosed her several times. They did not tell me in 2012 when I had a mole removed from my dogs leg that it was cancer even after it was sent off to pathology. Just told me it was nothing to be concerned about. The mole came back and they removed it again and still did not tell me it was anything serious. So then my dog starts to get a bump on her leg in the same area. So I take her in a they tell me it's just scar tissue and nothing to worry about. So it keeps getting worse so I take her back in the vet is very rushed and does a needle biopsy of the area to look at under a microscope and comes back in to tell me that she doesn't really know what it is from the slide and I'm going to have to bring my dog back when the vet has more time for another biopsy so they can send it off. This vet was very rushed and seemed stressed. I even heard her talking on the phone outside the door about how she just didn't have time because she her room's were all backed up. Kind of made it sound like she just didn't want to be there. So they charge me over a $100 and did not get any answers. So I decide to go to another vet a second opinion. Come to find out, after this vet reviewed my dogs records and consulted with a veterinary oncologist in Dallas, my dog's leg should have been amputated back in 2012 because it is a cancer. Oh and to make it even worse now it has metastasized to her lungs and there is nothing that can be done. Not even chemotherapy will help her. So If Acres North had diagnosed my dog correctly 2 years ago I would not be looking that death of my dog to their negligence. This is also not the first time, my other dog died in April from cancer as well. I also brought him in in 2012 because of being lethargic. They did an X-ray and said oh we think we see something in his abdomen. Then the vet comes back in a says oh it was nothing. I had another vet look at it. Fast forward February 2014. my dog's starts to look bloated so I take him in and they do an X-ray and guess what he has a large tumor on his spleen. The vet even told me oh you remember when we thought we saw something 2 years ago yea that really was something back then. So by this point there is nothing that can be done and my dog passed away in April from a tumor that if caught earlier my have had a chance of being removed and treated with Chemotherapy. The icing on the cake is that the front desk is horrible. Every time I had gone in they did not have enough staff up front. So The staff that's up there does not hardly even acknowledge you. You're lucky if you get a hurried and rude we'll be with you in a minute. There is also always one girl sitting at a computer and absolutely refuses to help anyone even once one of the other girls asked if she could help out. I heard this vet is owned by a corporation and not locally owned as they used to be.
I have been using Acres North for the passed 8 years, and I love them. At first I only had to take my cat there about once a year for a shot for her allergies. Then just over 4 years ago we got a poodle, and go much more often for yearly shots, ear infections, etc. We have always had a wonderful experience with them. The prices make it possible to keep up to date on all of her shots, and anytime we have brought her in with any health issues they always take care of her. A few months ago someone abandoned a severely neglected dog in our yard with a collar grown into her neck. It was a holiday so we actually had to take her to the emergency clinic that works with Acres North. The care there was fantastic, and then when we took her for follow up to Acres North a week later, the excellence continued. We even had the same vet that originally saw her at the emergency clinic. Apparently she works both places. I recommend Acres North to any pet owners that I know in Lubbock. We will continue to go there for all of our pet health needs. I also want to say that at every single visit, both the Vet and the Vet Tech took the time for us. They always ask if we have questions, or anything we would like to talk about. I am always able to ask general health questions about my animals. I really appreciate this. With all of the "info" out there in pet food commercials and the web, it is nice to be able to talk to someone 1 on 1.
Ive been coming to this vet clinic for over 10 years, and recently my kitten was diagnosed with a severe ear infection. She got better, but soon became worse than before so when we brought her back, they switched her to a steroid and a new eardrop. The vet was only in the room for less than 5 minutes and felt very rushed. She sent us home saying "she could possibly have permanent damage and her head might be tilted to the right for the rest of her life" which we assumed meant she would make a recovery. As soon as I gave her the meds, she went downhill even more quickly and did not make it even two days... When we called them, they said her prognosis on her file showed she didn't have a good chance of making it, something we were NOT told. We went up there and asked for a refund for her past visit so we could get her cremation taken care of, they refused. We had to threaten to call corporate in California before anything was done. The doctor I believe is responsible for my kitten's death never even made an attempt to come talk to us either. She just sent other people to deal with us. This is unacceptable to me. Overall, we were extremely upset with the way things were handled. I will NOT be bringing my dogs back here.
I usually don't make it a habit to bash businesses, but I think this qualifies. Our 12 year old dachshund, whom I'm watching while my mom is out of town, had been experiencing what seemed to be anxiety and shortness of breath. The last time my mom was out of town she took him to her vet office, Acres North, to be boarded (a few weeks ago). While there, he experienced what they deemed was a "seizure" and said it was probably just stress and to watch him, because they had done EXTENSIVE tests, and "nothing was wrong". Today, he had an episode where he fell over onto his side for a moment and was unresponsive. I took him to to my vet whom I LOVE this afternoon and immediately she asked me if I knew that he had a very severe heart murmur. After describing his symptoms, she said that she believed he had congestive heart failure. After taking xrays, lo and behold, it was clear that he has severe congestive heart failure & a very enlarged heart, and it's been going on for quite some time. Thanks Acres North! Apparently your staff is so inept that they don't even know how a dog's heart is supposed to sound. If left untreated, our dog would have succumbed to heart failure within the next couple of weeks. This is the second incident we've had with them. The first being when they prescribed a medication to our other dog for oily skin, and it caused him to go into liver failure and die. Pet killers! Do not take your animals there!
Every time I've been in, I feel nickel and dimed. My Rosie went in because of diarrhea. The vet said she probably just ate some grass and picked up a paracite (what grass is there in Lubbock..?) and prescribed me antibiotics and sold me expensive high fiber dog food I didn't need, without doing a fecal, without any means to justify it other than a guess.. a week later, Rosie still had diarrhea, the food was gone, the pills were gone, and I was 100 bucks lighter. I took her back in for them to guess again and say diarrhea is common in large breeds (German Shepherd). For me to have to bring her back in, misdiagnosed, and to tell me diarrhea is common for her breed, with no exam, no further medication, I was billed 70 dollars.. I recently brought her in because she had been limping for a week. I told them I believed she stepped on something because her paw was sensitive before but I could not find anything. The doc felt her elbow, shoulder, and extended her arm.. after the brief examination of normal arm movement, the doctor determined my pup had a rare nerve disease seen in large breed dogs equivalent to growing pains in humans.. although it's impossible to x-ray for because it's a nerve disease, and the vet didn't even check her paw.. the vet literally guessed and diagnosed her with a rare nervous system disease... took her to another vet, they took her temp and found she had a fever and an infected wound from her paw. A blood infection that could have potentially killed her. I will never take Rosie to this vet again. They are ignorant and refuse to listen to what you say. They guess in the things they diagnose and you end up paying for it. The staff is very very friendly, they're just idiots... it's odd.. they make you feel good about emptying your wallet to them.
