I've been going here for over 20 years. Doc Johnson was the best (RIP).Thought I would have to find somewhere else to go until I met Dr. Powell. Now Dr. Powell is the best!! I'm staying right here.

Dr. Powell has taken care of my dog and my cat for 5 years. He's terrific and his staff is is very professional.

My family and I have been taking our pets to Acorn Hill Animal Hospital since the 1970's. Until a few years ago, Acorn Hill was run by Dr. Johnson. He was an honest, fair, and compassionate veterinary doctor. He was VERY knowledgeable and treated all kinds of animals. Unlike many other vets who seek to gouge concerned pet owners for all their worth, Dr. Johnson could tell you what the problem was without doing all of those expensive tests. There was a time I was skeptical about him so I took my pet elsewhere. About $3,000 later, various blood tests, scans and a stomach endoscopy to determine the problem with my dogs vomiting, I took him back to Dr. Johnson. One sniff of the dogs ears and he said, "yep, your dog has an ear infection....he's vomiting up phlegm and yeast that drained down his throat." $30 dollars later, I left Acorn Hill with Otomax and ear wash and my dog was better in a couple days. I never left Dr. Johnson again. I was sad when he passed away a few years ago...as were many of his clients. He was, by far, the MOST experienced and CHEAPEST vet in the county. Although Acorn Hill will never be the same without Dr. Johnson and no vet will ever compare to him, I am happy that the new vet that took over his business has kept some of his tradition alive. Acorn Hill is still the lowest cost for the best vets in town. Do not expect to be taken for a fool here....they do not try and woo you with fancy trinkets, mailers, and unnecessary service (all of which you pay a pretty penny for), but your pet will be in good hands and you can rest assured you are not being had.

I live in Helotes, where Dr. Clint Powell use to work, and when I heard he moved to Acorn Hill Animal Hospital I was willing to go the distance to try out this new place because I loved the work he had done before for my pets. I made the appointment and I am so happy I did. As soon as you walk in it starts everyone is very welcoming and nice to you making you feel comfortable. Then you go into the room where the tech takes the temperature and finds out exactly what you need and if you have any other concerns for your pet(s). Then Dr. Powell comes in and he is extremely wonderful you can actually tell he is there for your animal and to make sure they get the best care possible without breaking your bank. Dr. Powell and all of his techs are extremely helpful and I would recommend them a million times again. They are absolutely worth my 45 minute drive and I recommend them to all of my family and friends. Give them a try I promise you won't regret it.

He's always available, he's got years of experience and diagnoses pet illnesses accurately without gouging you with unneccesary trial testing that makes Vet visits so expensive. He loves animals and is not just in it for the money. He is well-established in the San Antonio area (been practicing for well over 30 years) and provides exellent service.
