I found a cute little dog in the street took it to Becker Animal Hospital to be checked & groomed because I immediately found a good home for the dog. I took the dog in morning 7 they told it would not be ready to be picked up until 2:00 pm. I was not able to leave work at that time so I called & asked if I could pay the bill over the phone with a debit card 7 have the new owner pick her up. Front desk said no they didn't take payment over the phone. so then I asked what if I write a check & owner takes the check & picks up dog, They said they couldn't do this as well. REALLY?? They couldn't make things more difficult when I was trying to do some good for someone. SAD!
I took my cat here on a Sunday afternoon. It took 2+ hours to be called back to see a vet, and another 45 minutes in the examination room before the vet came in. The suggested treatment was extremely conservative-to the point that it was gouging. My cat was constipated and straining to poop. Enema plus fluids (subcutaneous) would be sufficient. *Before the vet even examined him* they suggested 24 hour intravenous fluids, 2 enemas, 2 x-rays...all at a cost of over $550. Now, I love my cat, but he is just having problems pooping. Would be like a medical doctor ordering a CT scan on a patient who is known to have headaches. Overkill. I told them just one enema and subcutaneous fluids, over $150 dollars for that pleasure but it did resolve the situation for about $400 less than they had suggested (and about 23 hours less than what they suggested). Both approaches would have worked, but I have to believe that they were going for the approach that would result in the most profit for them. They create business for themselves (although to be fair, their approach would have worked at a much greater cost to me and stress to my pet in being away from me/home).
I took my 5 month old puppy here a couple of weeks ago to get his due round of puppy shots, and his nails trimmed. Since I have strange working hours, I came to Becker at 3AM. I was the only person there. The front desk staff were very nice and inviting, which was nice. They talked with me about my pup and played with him a little while we waited. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes to get a room. Once in the room, I waited 45 minutes for the VET TECH to come into the room. Seriously, not ok. I was the ONLY customer in the building, why in the world did they take so long? I almost left the room to see if they forgot about me. When the tech finally came in, she was friendly enough. Didn't seem familiar with the breed, and just went through the MS Word document of questions with me, while trying to up-sell me the most expensive and unnecessary things, and took my pup's vitals. After the vet tech left the room, I had to wait another 15-20 minutes for the vet to come in. When the vet came in, she was very strange. She wasn't very friendly, and she kind of seemed like I was inconveniencing her, didn't really attempt a conversation with me. She gave my pup his shots, and when it came time to cut his nails, they wanted to take him out of the room. Like, what? No. I told her, no, I'd prefer you cut his nails in here, or I will take him somewhere else. So, after having a frustrated exchange with her vet tech, they agreed to cut his nails in the room with me. TL;DR Overall not an awful experience, but it's clear all Becker Animal Hospital wants is money - they couldn't care less about the animals health/safety as long as they get their payout. There are several employees who are very nice, helpful folks, which makes this place OK. But I wouldn't come here for serious medical care. Shots, nail trimmings, maybe. Beyond that, I wouldn't trust them with my animals with anything else. Definitely wouldn't board with these people given other reviews and things I've heard from friends.
First experience: cat's were declawed, when they were returned to us they were dirty and my cat had an infection for a week. Second: I've now tried calling to set up at home euthanasia, put on hold first time for 15 minutes, second time for over ten minutes when I was told she just needed to "switch phones". These may sound like small things, but when your dog is ailing and you're trying to set up an appointment to help him pass comfortably, and then you're put on hold for such a long time, I think it's ridiculous, inconsiderate, no compassion what so ever for the owners. I am so completely disappointed with the service this hospital provides. I suppose in all fields of medicine their is negligence and profit seeking priorities. I would never seek treatment from this place again.
This is a very nice building. That's all it is. Customer service is very poor. Waite time is always long. You are put in a room and that Waite time is worst. We had our dogs kenneled there. We asked to have them bathed and nails clipped. We picked our dogs up and none of this was done. They did not hesitate to update there shots and bill us for that. One more thing to note. I have seen Dr. Becker when he had his office off of West ave. You would actually see him there. The only time you will see him now is on his T.V commercial. Some things get bigger and better, not in this case.
