How do you describe perfection? I have been blessed for having found Dr. Harrison many years ago after using some of the other vets in town who proved to be a disappointment in one way or the other. The bottom line is that if anything is going on with one of my dogs, I want no one but Dr. Harrison to take care of them if it looks as if it could be serious. Melanie Wilcox is another gem and her handling and interaction with a dog is a delight to watch. Dr. Harrison used to work out of a small clinic on DeZavala Road for many years and finally he achieved his dream of having his own clinic and he did it right. It is the state of the art in every aspect of its operation. Amazingly enough, every member of his staff is more than professional, they are wonderful people in their own right with a deep love for anmals. All of this is impressive but there is even more. My dogs love Dr. Harrison!! The minute that I pull into his parking lot they are so excited in the back of my car that I need to make them calm down before I can let them out on leash. Dr. Harrison is the real dog whisperer. I might mention that he was very much there for me as well as one of my pets had to go on to the Rainbow Bridge. It was during such times that I found that Dr. Harrison was one of the most understanding and compassionate people that I have ever known in my over 80 years. Dr. Harrison is much more than a vet. He is a thoughtful, empathetic and understanding friend. I cannot recommend him highly enough and I am quite sure that all of my dogs would do the same. How many vets do you know who could kiss a German Shepherd on the nose and get away with it?
Well I can tell you that we have been customers for years and through some difficult times. We have always felt we received great service. I can tell you that recently we priced a certain type of surgery for one of our dogs and got another estimate for the same at another vet office. The price difference was dramatic; not saying the vet is inexpensive but certainly competitive. We recently recommended one of our friends who are now taking their dog here and are very happy. K. You WILL NOT, and let me repeat...WILL NOT find another vet clinic in the city of San Antonio or possibly in any other city (and I've lived multiple places) that cares for both pets and their humans like the vets and the staff at DeZavala Shavano Vet Clinic! I was extremely fortunate to find them after having a bad experience at a few other vets. I highly respect the intelligence of both Dr. Harrison and Dr. Wilcox and it's clear they love animals and they always treat them with gentleness and respect. They take as much time as needed to answer my questions during visits and are always available by phone if I call (and believe me, I ask a lot of questions!). And I can't say enough about the terrific staff at the clinic - always friendly and welcoming. I never doubt that my pets will get the VERY best attention when under the care of everyone at this clinic. Simply put, going to DeZavala Shavano Vet Clinic is like being a part of a large family that makes pet caring a priority!
I'm only putting 1 star because I can't put lower. I have been a customer at dezavala for years and then I brought my pet in for her rabies vaccine and a bath. When I picked her up I found that they charged me for a physical exam as well and when I asked why this was Mary their receptionist informed me that it was required by state law to perform a physical along with the rabies vaccine. When I questioned this she then said that it was just required by the clinic. When I asked her why they did not inform me when dropping my dog off that this was an additional service required by them and the fee for it I was told that when I signed a statement saying I would except financial responsibility for a bath and the vaccine that, that means I also have to pay for the exam, and that they didn't have to inform me of the exam requirement unless I asked for an estimate. I loved this clinic and went to them for years with all of my pets and this to me was a slap in the face. I will not be goin back to this clinic for any of my pet needs. What happened to customer service and fair service practices?
