My puppy (7 months) had been suffering for the past 2 1/2 months with was thought to be "allergies." I had spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at 2 vet clinics prior, that kept treating her for allergies (steroid shot, antibiotics, etc.). My puppy had happened to swallow 4 doses of trifexis one evening and i had to take her to the Emergency vet clinic because my normal vet clinic was closed. At the emergency room i asked for recommendations for her skin. They suggested a animal dermatologist. I researched and found O'Connor Road Animal Hospital. i had planned on doinga $320 allergy test for my dog but within the first 15 min the VET TECHNICIAN was one who asked about doing a skin scraping to test for demodex that only cost $22. i agreed and what do we know? My dog had demodex. I finally found out what was wrong with my puppys skin and have finally found an answer. I am now able to treat my puppy with the correct medication to beat this demodex. Dr. Kern was extremely helpful as well as the rest of the staff. I strongly suggest anyone come to this vet office.
Awesome hospital! Everyone is wonderful with the animals. From the people at the front desk to the Veterinarians, all have a great 'bedside' manner with our dogs. I have been taking our dogs there for almost 9 years now and will continue to go to this Vet clinic in the future. I have one older German Shepard now who needs pain management care and both Dr. Tomasini and Dr. Smeltzer and both been great and treating her needs and finding a way to manage her hip and leg pain.
It's taken me a while to write this review but I just wanted to say Thank you for everything. We had to take our Sasha in back in August because she wasn't herself. Unfortunately, we had to let her go and I just wanted to say thank you to all the staff for your compassion during that very difficult time. Your receptionist were so sweet while I stood checking out and crying, they were so sincere in their sympathies. Your vet techs were so gentle with her and gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes. Dr. Kern answered all our questions and was honest about our options and what would be best for her. It was not an easy thing to go through, having to say goodbye to our girl but your staff took great care of us and her and I greatly appreciate it
I'm writing about my experience with my personal pet only, although I have been taking my elderly father's Shih Tzu there for several years now for both care and grooming. My sister-in-law and brother take their beloved Lily there as well, and she has had to have emergency and overnight care, so I am aware of the dedication. My sister-in-law thinks they are pricey, but I can't address that as yet for veterinary care on an emergency scale. I got my Khaleesi from ADL in May and took her and my dad's Panda in for grooming. I got in easily on the phone, despite a few reviews I read to the contrary. The staff were friendly and while there was some wait time, it wasn't too bad. The groomer, I think her name is Jessica, was so friendly and did exactly as we asked. The dogs were finished about an hour before promised and looked gorgeous. I just called and made my second grooming appointment for a few weeks from now. The phone was answered right away and I got the appointment easily. No complaints at all other than I wish it wasn't so expensive to groom a hairy furbaby but that's more from my poor empty pocket's perspective than from them being priced too high! I haven't had to use the vet care for Khaleesi yet, as she was spayed and given her shots, wormed, and given heartworm prevention through ADL, but I will definitely be taking her to O'connor Rd Animal Hospital for yearly immunizations and check ups, as well as if she (Heaven forbid!) gets sick.
4 pets, recently moved to San Antonio, have been to this place twice. First visit one of my dogs needed their yearly vaccinations updated and needed heartworm tests and preventative renewals on both dogs. I picked them up, and they had forgotten to do the heartworm test and refused to correct their mistake, explaining that I would have to set up another appointment for that and pay the extra appointment fee, even though they are the ones who forgot. I tried to discuss this with the front desk staff, but instead of listening to my complaint they just tried to sell me on their dental program. So just know that they are okay with your pets going without heartworm preventative in mosquito friendly San Antonio. Second visit, one of my dogs had fleas and has a bad flea allergy. They set him up on antibiotics and I purchased their recommended treatment and spray for the backyard. That helped temporarily, but did not eliminate the problem. Called them back and asked if they could groom my dog since the products didn't work so that I could at least look for and remove fleas more easily with shorter hair when I found them, explaining that my dog was miserable and in pain. Refused to fit me in with their groomer until a few days later. I can understand a busy groomer, but my dog was in pain and it was a medical emergency due to the allergy. I have never in my life had a vet who couldn't fit in a client that day in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately, I have to board them with this place for our vacation this month because it is too late to book someone else. After that, however, we will be looking for a new vet. Other than the above: long wait times, disorganized front desk staff. Go with someone else.
